Speed on the roads has always been an issue. It started with the red flag man walking in front of the horseless carriages and the issue has modified as traffic volume and speeds attainable have increased.
One noticeable aspect is that driving standards vary with good to bad habits and attitudes being seen every day.
So...how can bad driving be “managed”?
Speed is pretty easy these days as an actual measurement can be made and used. Hence the proliferation of detection devices and the resultant perception of cash generation. This also feeds data to interested parties to manipulate in ways to suit their aims,ideology,pet hates...
I have pet hates that irk me....non indication by turning cars, lane change, lack of courtesy to tell others what you are doing.
Tailgating...
Ridiculous parking...
If tech was introduced to actually measure things like these then I guess standards would improve.
Speed is too often used as a reason for an incident when poor driving in general is the root cause. You can argue that your speed should be such that it allows you to react safely should someone’s driving cause issue but in the end it is general driving standards that initiate incidents. That is a coverall statement as so many factors are covered.
Even if you drive within a speed limit safety can be compromised by bad driving.
Video evidence of poor driving is starting to become useful hence dashcams. Even sending footage in has started.
“I think, in my opinion, you are driving like a dhead... I am sending my footage in”.
So much variation in opinions...a minefield.
