Or upload it to youtube, once it makes the news (mainly dailymail) the Police will take action.
Seen it happen multiple times over the past couple of years.
I'm not sure on exactly what's happened due to the footage not being up, but if your FiL didn't do anything wrong and the bloke was just a hot head, I'd do the above before taking anything into your own hands.Seen it happen multiple times over the past couple of years.
Get all of your friends and us on here to share it, hopefully it'll get so big that it'll force the police into doing something.

None of which makes any difference whatsoever.
Provocation (if you want to look at it that way) is not a defence to criminal damage/ assault/ public order offences.
The op's father in law may not have done the wisest thing but he won't be the one in the dock.

Two wrongs don't make a right.

Good old pistonheads.
For those thinking my FIL is the issue, it wasn't a motorway, but a 3 lane road. FIL in lane 1, offender in lane 2. they where at some red traffic lights with the offender in the middle lane, about 1/2 a car length in front, they set off from the lights and after my FIL was filtering left, the other guy wanted to cut across his lane and turn left. The offender could have went 1/2 a mile up the road and turned right and ended up in the same place (slip road on the left takes them over a flyover) the guy tried to force his way in within 20-30 meters of the turning, when my FIL was already moving. He also had his van loaded so he wasn't going to slam on to let an idiot in.
Guy got upset he couldn't bully my FIL out the way, my FIL isn't the type of person to cut someone up or be aggressive, he's quite a relaxed driver and in 4 years of having a dash camera this is the only thing he's ever had.
Big question, if it was me or one of my BIL driving, would the guy have done it? I very much doubt it.
Yes my FIL would do it again,
From this and the first post, what I can't quite understand is, if this exchange happened within 20-30m of the junction, your FIL is turning left in lane 1 and the "Offender" in lane 2 is prevented from turning left how they continued alongside for half a mile. How does blocking someone from switching lanes 20-30m of the junction tie in with your original post that said he blocked him for 1/2 a mile?
" and the stayed side by side for 1/2 mile"
It doesn't." and the stayed side by side for 1/2 mile"
Not quite going the way the OP thought it would & we're not being told the full unbiased story.
If it happened at all.
Perhaps the OP could clarify?

Exactly, sounds like some story-bending or other bullst going on.

Well, it's a bit tricky, because the OP wasn't there, was he?Perhaps the OP could clarify?
I accept that it's a hobby horse of mine, but why didn't FIL post his own story - with dashcam footage?
All we have is SIL (it is a bloke, is it?) telling us his version of events, when he wasn't even there!

FTR I have already said my stance on it, I was actually expecting it to go this way, it's pistonheads...
Hopefully an image will clear things up, FIL lane 1 (black) Offender lane 2 (white) FIL has went left, he's forced FIL over onto the hatchings, the hatchings last around 1/2 a mile and then swaps to two lanes, guys stopped the van a further 1/2 a mile after the hatchings ended. the positions I have put on is where the guy started indicating
Update, after making a complaint about lack of updates apparently the guy has replied he will attend a voluntary interview with a lawyer

Read the OP again FFS. It's with the CPS. They are waiting for the other guy to attend voluntarily to interview him.

So white man has missed or misjudged his exit, tries to cut in at last minute, and instead of allowing that, FIL insists on driving alongside him on the hatchings for half a mile? Sure, the other guy cocked up, but it wouldn't have hurt FIL at all to just let him in and carry on with his day and hope that next time he makes a mistake on the road, someone is kind enough to let him correct it rather than mess around trying to block him.Hopefully an image will clear things up, FIL lane 1 (black) Offender lane 2 (white) FIL has went left, he's forced FIL over onto the hatchings, the hatchings last around 1/2 a mile and then swaps to two lanes, guys stopped the van a further 1/2 a mile after the hatchings ended. the positions I have put on is where the guy started indicating

Still of the same opinion im afraid, FIL should just gently lift off to make space for the idiot/guy who's made a mistake etc and get on with his day. Then none of this would happen.Hopefully an image will clear things up, FIL lane 1 (black) Offender lane 2 (white) FIL has went left, he's forced FIL over onto the hatchings, the hatchings last around 1/2 a mile and then swaps to two lanes, guys stopped the van a further 1/2 a mile after the hatchings ended. the positions I have put on is where the guy started indicating

So from what I can gather, 2 nutters have had an unnecessary run in.
The problem here being one was an even bigger nutter than the other.
Now low level nutter is unhappy.
9 times out of 10 low level nutter would have been content blocking a non nutter and rewatching the footage.
We all know low level nutter, some we love as family and friends, but one day they’re going to meet a bigger nutter.

That picture makes it very clear.
- FiL in left lane to peel-off left. Assumedly (almost certainly) in a queue.
- "bad guy" either leaves it till the last second to "jump the queue", or makes a genuine mistake. Lets assume its not a mistake.
- FiL "stands his ground"
- "Bad guy" is furious and won't budge.
- both drive along side by side like utter bellends for half a mile.
- "bad guy" loses it , gets out, and smashesplonker's FiL's windows.
All FiL had to do was back off, let "bad guy" in and all would be fine. bet he's really glad he stood his ground and didn't "give in".
And he'll do the same again. Can't say I'm massively sympathetic.
