The wiring is done, full demo of everything working, dash reads the ECU, PDM fires up the power outputs, switch panel talks to PDM and ECU etc etc...

Startup was attempted Thursday night... and various oil leaks, water leaks and a fuel leak were found (no real surprise).

Since it now really is just a case of nipping up a few AN fittings and mapping the engine, I have decided to leave it with him.

He was very apologetic again, I don’t think we will fall out, but I am still very pissed off by the length of time he has had the car.

The next available slot on his dyno is 2 days at the end of the month... 2 days on a complex engine and electronics setup like mine won’t achieve the full bells and whistles, but it will achieve running at a fixed boost single map and the blip / cut setup done so I don’t mangle the gearbox - enough for testing... I still have all the bodywork to do... in fact, a massive ruddy list of things to do.

So, collection on the 29th now booked. I’ll then take it away, get bodywork done, get it “road worthy”, carry out some testing and go back at a later date for further mapping, switchable maps etc.
That's encouraging. But.....

.....do you know all of this because that's what he's told you over the phone, or do you know this because you've seen it in the flesh and/or he's sent you video evidence?

I hope this works out for you OP. Good luck!

Saw it in person, confirmed all done.

Oil leak now fixed (left a fitting not tight - my own fault).

Yes, I could have have asked him to bump someone else’s booking but that would have been atleast 2 or 3 other customers, and taken a bit of rearranging, easier to just wait to the free slot.

As above, getting this close then asking someone else to take it on adds much more cost and even further delay.

I am now 90% confident it will happen... if not it will be collected.

1) It went on the dyno and as it turned out it wasn't done after all.
2) The dyno wasn't available after all and isn't available for another 6 months, but the car is still 90% done.

(sorry OP - hope it's all resolved)

I reckon the car blew up on the dyno and there is blame being apportioned elsewhere.

OP has fallen off the face of the earth, so I'm guessing it's bad news?

Sorry.. didn’t update this...

Basically, he pulled it out of the hat, the car now runs, the electronics all work... but the gearbox was discovered to have issues... so now working on that.

He didn’t even ask for payment in the end, although I can’t leave it like that, he did the work, and did it well... just didn’t manage the project well enough.

Case closed, pitch forks away smile

Good news. I expect there will be a couple of disappointed posters though.

Well done OP. It's easy for the armchair experts to say they'd do this and that and you're a mug, but I think you did the right thing. Throwing your toys out of the pram wouldn't have achieved anything.

They will of course be noticeably absent from this thread post update.

OP - good luck on the rest of the build, hopefully you'll stick up a thread once done

Good outcome, well done. smile Shame about the gearbox issue but at least he offered to waive the fee.

Don't know why anyone would be absent from the thread, don't think anyone was wishing for the conclusion to be bad - were they?

I thought the OP was being gullible and trusting and was fairly rude to him.

I’m glad the OP has his car back. I’m sorry it took him so long to get it back and that there are still issues to be resolved (not as a result of this garage, if I understand it correctly). The OP is infinitely more patient and trusting than I am, or would have been in the circumstances he described.
