Attacked by security guard - police blaming me!
Discussion
I was actually stopped for shoplifting yesterday in my local Range store, walking around I had a few items in the basket and took my phone out of my pocket into the basket as I felt it nearly fall out of my rear pocket.
As I get nearer the till I remove phone from basket and put it back in my pocket, a female and male security team approach after I’ve walked through the door explain why they’ve stopped me and ask me back in store, naturally people are looking but no problem.
So into the store we go and at their kiosk I explain why I think they stopped me which was met with a wry smile, produced my receipt, bag checked and quick turn out of pockets proved my innocence, a quick apology from them with me acknowledging that it must of looked suspicious, shake of hands and on my way out again in less than 10 minutes.

You flucking idiot! You missed an opportunity to start a proper fight and be justified in doing so.As I get nearer the till I remove phone from basket and put it back in my pocket, a female and male security team approach after I’ve walked through the door explain why they’ve stopped me and ask me back in store, naturally people are looking but no problem.

I’d have been fine with the bag and receipt check - but as a paying customer who’d done nothing wrong, I’d have balked at turning out my pockets to “prove” my innocence. But apparently I’m a Communist and/or a naive Tory Boy - so I’m probably wrong.

Mate just accept that:
1. Any reasonable human would go with the security guard, if he abused his power film/record and/or report his behaviour later.
2. Instead you flipped out and swung at him and resisted citizens arrest
3. Had your gf stand by the exit ready to swap bags (or something?) with you that looks totally suspicious
4. Your partner enjoyed seeing you get emasculated
A reasonable person would state that they had no receipt, and had paid for their goods and leave. I don't think it is reasonable to expect people to be dragged off by a security guard on a whim, or to tolerate a unlawful search.1. A citizens arrest is only valid if SCONE is followed, and must be stated as such, you can't just drag someone off and hold them without stating that.

They really wouldn’t. It’s not a whim, the OP refused a request and then it all kicked off.
Stupid is as stupid does.

According to the OP, the request to see the receipt was not a request but an accusing demand that when he refused resulted in the security man getting physical. I think that is the bit the OP is annoyed at. It’s not a whim, the OP refused a request and then it all kicked off.
Stupid is as stupid does.
So as I understand it, if the OP account is bang on accurate, it was kicked off by the attitude and manner of the initial contact by the security guard.

I despair at the fact PH has become a breeding ground for wannabe hard men and wkers making up so much bks about things that definitely didn’t happen in their insignificant lives.
Get a grip.
Whatever can be levelled at the op, he has been very humble and actually admitted several times he shouldn’t have done what he did in hindsight.
He’s not coming across as a freeman of the land or a Danny dyers supermarket rucks on bravo at all.

How much did you ask for to compensate for that 10 minutes of your time? Did they give you your shopping for free?Could be worse OP. My local Sainsbury's security guards detained a shoplifter a few months ago and he died.
The two blokes in question are very big meatheads. I haven't seen them in there since. I guess they won't be there until the court case they are now embroiled in has finished.

To be fair, I’m not sure wannabe internet hard men openly admit they get confused for being homosexual and they run away from security men leaving their girlfriends behind.

What actually happened: “can I see your receipt please?” “Sure” “that’s fine, sorry to bother you”
You know, like 99.999999% of times something like that happens.

I haven't seen the OPs shopping list, but suspect its more likely to have been raw meat, whey protein and red bull, rather than a scone. Cyberprog said:

Is that the official 'shoplifters charter'? Just pick up what you want, lie about paying for it, hold your head up high because you know your rights, and just walk straight, you'll be fine You would imagine that the retailers are not stupid enough to have self checkouts that allowed customers to walk away not paying, without some sort of prompt saying you have removed your goods from the scales/bagging area but you haven't paid.
They don't allow you to scan the next item until the previous item has been placed on the scales, and putting an item on the scales for packing without scanning would be known.
They must have proof of payment if you decline a receipt, so it is a no brainer to just walk away when asked to show the receipt or until they have proof of payment. You just invite a whole world of hurt otherwise.

It wasn't like that though was it? You missed the bit where the OP departed the scene (exercising his civil liberties), leaving the security guard no choice but to do something. Again not saying the security guard acted well, but the OP gave him no choice but to act.So as I understand it, if the OP account is bang on accurate, it was kicked off by the attitude and manner of the initial contact by the security guard.
