Out on bail during your murder trial - normal?
Discussion
18 y/o mother of one who does not deny she stabbed the guy in the heart - she forgot she had a knife with her and that It was in her hand when she went to punch him

Left the scene and the victim to die - then handed herself and the cleaned knife in a few hours later
Seems strange she is out on bail during the trial - is that usual?

I would be interested to know how common it is - I assumed (wrongly) that with a murder charge you got free accomm pending the trial
Crime stats are collated and public domain. Not sure bail stats are broken down. Have a search here:

Relatively rare especially for adults but not as rare as it used to be.
I was once doing court security at Bow St Mags in the the late 80's It was a bail app for a murder in an amusement arcade. (Magistrates can't grant bail for murder anymore) One of the "Peripheral" defendants put in an app during which the barrister said that bail was not unheard of in a murder trial. The Stipe said that it was in their court.

Many years ago I worked with a lady who had stabbed her boyfriend - he died.
They had a tempestuous relationship.
Came back to their flat after drinking he threw a bunch of keys at her in the kitchen, she picked up a knife and (she said) he was doing some arms wide chest out posturing shouting "do it then' or words to that effect....he ended up with the blade 1cm into his chest.
Incredibly unlucky as it cut into an artery near his heart and he was dead in minutes.
She was out on bail and still working.
It was ruled as a tragic accident and she wasn't jailed.
Looking back (I was 19 at the time) now she didn't seem that concerned, certainly not consumed with grief....

That Bail guidance refers to 'him' throughout, is there a more relaxed version when the accused is a 'her'... The Surveyor said:
