If a car (or anything else for that matter) exhibits a fault during the first thirty days of ownership then the Consumer Rights Act 2015 allows for the car to be rejected for a full refund.
The trouble with all consumer law is on the ground it's nothing like as black and white as that. The article you linked to says "a car with a fault is not necessarily a faulty car." It also refers to "significant fault".

It's not like you can dial 999 if the dealer won't play ball - if the dealer isn't co-operative then you could have a long legal battle on your hands.

Maybe on your planet.
We have had had 4 MB thus far:

2004 SLK 230
2010 E350 CDi Coupe
2012 SLK 200
2012 AMG C63

My Father In Law also had an E280 CDi Estate

All were extremely reliable with no issues whatsoever. I guess I live on that same planet.

I just love sweeping generalisations.
I guess it's a "sweeping generalisation" which is based on facts.

Advice? Well speaking as someone who has owned a fair few MB's over the last 26 years, (still have one), my advice would be to buy a Lexus.
Then you’d need a paper bag to keep over your head to avoid the embarrassment of having bought something so pig UGLY. paperbag

JDPower suggests MB are about average.

An interesting read that suggests MB are about as reliable on average as most, nothing in there to suggest one has to be on a different planet to suggest they are more or less averagely reliable.

My dad has a recent eclass , he likes it and it's s great car

However he had cracked several alloys and ruined sevreral tyres due to the state of uk roads .

He's a decent sensible driver and seems a bit of an issue with mercs

Is it the roads, or is the car not fit for purpose? Roads in other parts of Europe can be pretty bad too.

Maybe he doesn’t see so good or doesn’t look where he’s going?

The odd wheel or tyre maybe, but several? That surely indicates a lack of care?

It's the Porsche premium.

The place where I take my cars for alignment often has high-end cars on the ramps.
(Ferrari, Porsche, BMW, etc and lots of specialist/ modified stuff).

Main dealers send stuff there.

It's £60 + VAT for a 4 wheel alignment using a Hunter machine and the lads know what they are doing (my car is fully adjustable and had a slight tweek of the sub frame last time).

If you are paying £250 you've had your pants pulled down by a main dealer (who has probably farmed the job out for £60).

If you are happy taking your p and j to Kwik fit for some inexperienced moron to work on then fair enough and £100 should cover it.

Quality and expert places cost more.

And the OP should demand a quality job even though he's not paying.
Kwik Fit charge £35 (or they did a couple of years ago). A "quality and expert place" that don't have "inexperienced morons" typically charge somewhere between £60-100 for a full geometry set up using a proper machine (Hunter, for example). These are places that often do a lot of work on race cars too so tend to have a good understanding of what they're doing. If you're paying £250 and not trolling then I think the earlier comment by 'shake n bake' is about right.
£60 to £100 for a 4 wheel alignment on a 'race car'. rofl

Presumably you are referring to a chavved up Corsa lol.

Hilarious.

We wouldn't pay under £400. If you even have the slightest understanding of a proper set up on a proper car and you are not trolling you may understand these figures.

You get what you pay for. End of.
I feel bad that the thread is getting derailed for the OP but I have to know AV, what does a £250-£400+ alignment get you?
I had mine done last week prior to a trackday. Used a local tyre place after hearing good things. Facility was good, clean. Ramp sunk into the floor so didn’t smack my splitter on it like most places. They have the latest Hunter kit.

The guy doing the alignment has over 20 years experience and is the go to guy around here for enthusiasts, track cars and a number of race cars.
He did the best, most precise setup I have ever seen on a car, even advised and adapted my setup a bit to help me on the specific trackdays I told him about.
Also informed me I have a slightly bent lower arm as the caster is a bit out on the passenger side.
Car was great on track and has never lapped so fast.

This cost me £84 inc vat

Corner weighted with the correct ballast in the driver's seat you would hope.

For a daily driver I'd recommend staying away from the more expensive places unless you make it clear to them that you don't want the best handling car for track but a compromised setup.

I've been to an expensive garage before that dealt with racebmw's (only did this as my car was too low for my usual place) and they set up the car well but it was far too track focused, it handled great but followed the camber of the roads far too easily and my rear tyres didn't last long due to the negative camber.

There's lots of different types of race cars, if you didn't know. Wouldn't be spending £400 on an alignment for a 2CV 24hr racer, would you? What's a "proper car"?

I used to know some race teams that used a bit of string to check their alignments.

Personally, for my car, I paid £80 for a 4 wheel 3D alignment that we spent about 1.5hrs on to get things how I wanted them.

You don't always get what you pay for.
