I received a speeding ticket from the A35 Chideock west bound Camera in Dorset. 36mph in a 30mph. Failed to observe the speed limit dropping and had CC set to 40mph. My first ticket since passing my test in 2006 and I assumed I would end up with at least 1 ticket after I bought my mustang!

My question is, I live in Cornwall, I believe I will be applicable for the speed awareness course at that speed and with no prior.

Will I be able to do the course in Cornwall or will I have to pass the same speed camera to get to the course in Dorset?

At that speed, I would imagine that you should be offered a speed awareness course given that you have no prior speeding offences in the past 3 years.

You should be eligible to do the course locally to you

No he wont, being that the OP was tagged in Dorset, they are not participants in the national scheme which means you will HAVE to do it in Dorset.

What a crazy screwed up place the UK is..

They can quite happily fine and arrange for points to be added to someone outside of Dorset yet can't allow SACs to be done outside of the county...

Seems like we need some central department to oversee and coordinate licences, penalty point endorsements etc....

Devolved responsibility fails yet again to work in a sensible way, what's the point of national schemes if they are not national...??

this, theres another thread somewhere too!

Dorset are "different" ... I think they just want to keep the cash the "earn" all to themselves and not put it into the national pool ...

Thank you Remy, I might just coincide it with a trip to the tank museum or the FAA museum, make a long weekend of it biggrin

Dorset's awareness courses should last about 3 hours. What course did you do ?

Is there anywhere to find this info?

I suspect I was caught within the SAC boundary (clean licence, blah blah) in Suffolk/Essex borders over the weekend.

I'd gladly take the course in lieu of points, but having to trek back out there from London would be a pain.

The National courses are around 4 hrs
https://www.ndors.org.uk/faqs/how-long-do-the-cour...

If Dorset are doing their own thing, then it might well be longer

Not according to people I know who've taken a course in Dorset, nor indeed their own website.

I've heard of someone doing their SAC at the Tank Museum, so that may be the venue for it anyway.

It's a 3-4 hour course and you can politely ask for a Saturday morning.

They also don't update the national database so the restriction of a 12 month block on a course elsewhere doesn't come into play

Worst 'I own a Mustang' post ever… wink

Interesting about Dorset SAC! Was about to comment that I got a course and could choose anywhere in the country until I read those posts.

As said, its only three hours. 9 to 12 or 1 to 4.

The one that is all day is if you are involved in a crash. Can't remember what the course is called.

What's the old joke?

How do you know you're in the room with a Mustang owner?

Oh, don't worry, he'll tell you!

Sparkford would be a good alternative to FAA.
