So glad we only dont have to worry about kids and we can do adult only holidays outside of the summer holidays. Some of the holidays on this thread sound like the stuff if nightmares.
Even when our kids were of school age (they are now adults), we never did these sort of holidays, it was always arrange flights and find a villa/apartment somewhere.

They sound horrendous.

I’ve just come back from my first ever package holiday.

Never again!

2.2k for a week all inclusive in Marmaris for me, my partner and my 8 year old daughter. All inclusive (apart from, mysteriously, WiFi, which was an extra £6 per day per device). God it was awful, like living in the worst possible council estate. Literally nothing to do all day except drink or swim in the overcrowded pools, and listen to massively loud disco music and watch the ‘games’ the staff put on. Any trip on offer was full of the same kind of people. Oh, and bingo, lots of bingo. Food moderate.

Tripadvisor reviews were great (4 star hotel), but I guess they were placed by people who like that sort of thing. And yes, I know this makes me sound like a massive snob.

If it had just been me and my partner we’d have flown back after a couple of days, but my daughter loved it, made lots of friends and just played all day. So in my book, it was worth it, but she’ll hate next years holiday which will be full of museums and art galleries!

Oh, one thing - the staff were absolutely wonderful and very friendly, often in the face of severe adversity.

Not going to complain though, just going to write it off to experience and be a bit more careful next time!
So you went on a cheap holiday... and it was full of cheap people?

It’s fine being a snob, but being a snob on lemonade money is always going to leave you disappointed.
Agreed.

He doesn’t seem to be able to put his finger on exactly what was wrong either. Had a pool, entertainment team, entertainment, trips etc etc. It’s way an AI holiday is. The kid seemingly had a brilliant time too.

It’s like someone ordering a bottle of wine at a restaurant and trying to send it back when it wasn’t to their taste however there is nothing actually wrong with the wine, it’s just not for them.

Is 2.2k for a week cheap these days?
To a lot of people no it’s a lot of money. But this poster is complaining everyone there was a bit ‘council’. 2.2k split x3 ways for a week isn’t exactly top end.

If you’re paying about 750 per person a week for an all inclusive I t’s a bit unreasonable to expect to be sitting next to Nigel Havers and Stephen fry.

As kids that's what my parents did. We're planning a trip away with some family who have kids and we weighed up the cost of an AI hotel somewhere hot or a villa in Spain. Villa was way more practical and cheaper, no battles for sun beds, own pool, cook and eat what you want, easier in the evenings with young kids who need to go to bed etc. If you aim for somewhere within a couple of hours of Alicante even with food, hire cars etc it's cheaper per family for a huge villa for a group. I'm not so sure it's as cheap if it's a family of 4 for a villa with a private pool though. Add to that the entertainment, water slides for the kids etc.

I know a lot of people who enjoy an all inclusive family holiday in a big hotel though, I suppose you just have to pay big bucks or accept they're a bit of a cattle market.

OP, I think you’ve misquoted what you actually wanted advice about.

You want to know the best avenue of raising a complaint which will result in compensation being paid.

If you merely wanted to put forward a complaint, you could have just told the rep who was on site and left it at that.

It's Turkey.

£2200 for a family of 3 puts you at the "premium" end of the pricing for Turkey.

4 star AI can he had for £1300 on the first search I tried. £2200 the options include 5 star hotels.

we've just done 2 weeks in Tenerife for £1900- in a half board apartment. (an utter bargain- booked 9 months beforehand- otherwise it'd be £3500). do you know what, with two young children, it was all ok- take it with a pinch of salt, for what it was.

weirdly, the restaurant was always only a 1/3 rd full...... yet the food was superb........... I guess people are heating up beans in their apartments or going for sausage egg and chips somewhere, than have booked the meal options.

I think we used the hotel pool twice, for all of an hour ish.

yes, the English stand out- they're all morbidly obese and covered head to toe in council estate tattoo's and have children called Jaxon, but hey ho. We had a lovely holiday in Tossa de mar tow years ago, where virtually everyone staying was Dutch or French. Much more civil people, no sun bed hogging and at least they dressed for dinner for example.

I'm quite happy having nice days out, sight seeing and wandering down to the beach each day. why the feck you book an all inclusive and then never leave the place for 2 weeks, I don't know ? why wouldn't you want to see something ?

its not my thing, not my fave type of holiday, but with a 7 and 9 year old, they have the time of their life. And that's what its about.

They are not all like that - The place we have just returned from is AI and family orientated and there are plenty of beds by the pool at any time of day despite the hotel itself being at capacity in the summer holidays.

This was £6K for 2 weeks in Greece with TUI.
We have just arrived back from Greece on Wednesday last week. Went to Rohdes island and stopped in TUI Family Life hotel. Party of 3 including a 2 year old for 10 nights cost >£6k. It was for my partner' best friend's wedding. Can honestly say the hotel was fantastic. AI and the staff were amazing. Grounds, Pools, especially the swim up rooms and the on site water park were all great too. Could wander down at any time of day and get a sun lounger. The hotel was full but you would never believe it was in the middle of the school holidays either.
I wouldn't hesitate to go back. I looked at prices for out of school holidays to see if there is any difference as it's not usually a time we would go and basically the price difference is non existant. It's the same price no matter what time of year you go to that hotel.

Why ?

You could go on a package b&b or half board and still do what you want day to day , with b&b you could even travel away for a couple of nights without loosing out .

I'd rather pay 7500 a person a week flight only to not sit next to those two smile

4200 for 6 of us. Lock on door gone 4 times now. Switch front fell off with bare terminal exposed. Luckily nobody touched it. Food is crap. I'd expect far better in a back street cafe. List goes on. Been kn touch with Thomas cook who want to help on my return.

Over £6k for 3 people is rather on the high side for a TUI place, you’d hope it was amazing for that price.

For AI in the holidays you are looking at around £1000-1500 each normally I would have thought. OP at £700 each obviously forgot to tick the minimum 4 stars box smile

It's Turkey.

£700 gets 5 star AI during the school holidays.
