Being a grumpy fit now but I'm 10+ miles away from reading festival and I can hear the stty music in my front room
As the crow flies I’m less than a mile away and I’ve not heard it yet this weekend. Funny old world.

Sound refraction due to hotter air at altitude causing the festival noise to curve downwards some distance from the source. Not much anyone can do to control atmospheric conditions.
Every day is a school day, thanks.
And as per one of the other posters, it was loud in the morning when I posted, it is not now (apart from the odd sound).

So far this thread has been fun
A festival in it's own right. Same time next year?musicshout

That's all great as long as people are made aware of the potential hazard and make an informed choice. I doubt a lot of teenagers are.
Are you for real?
Modern times. There needs to be stickers above the hot water tap to identify that the hot water will be hot these days.
I guess some people need things explaining to them.

Perhaps you should "Go away" on holiday whilst the noisy festival is on......idea
Fair enough comment imo. I’ve lived in a few different places that have hosted once a year large events and it’s quite common for the locals to leave town to avoid it for one weekend a year if it’s not their thing.

We are sat in the garden about 1.5 miles away, quite enjoyable.

When I lived in Reading, I got a blanket and a beanbag, 'several' cold beers and listened in my garden. I was there man, really there.musichippy

I'm about 60 miles away as the crow flies (everyone is saying that on here so I want to join in) and I'm pretty sure I just heard a cymbal or something while I was out the back. Where's my compo plzzzz?

Went to a Quo gig in Brangwyn Hall in Swansea a few years ago. Small hall but Quo didn’t turn the level down. Awesome gig. Some ear ringing but my hearing is good. Always passed hearing tests in work with flying colours. I’ve worked in very noisy places but always used ear protection as hearing loss creeps up on you.
We lived near Pembrey circuit and could hear cars/bikes often. Not an issue. Next door to Pembrey is a bombing range....awesome watching the planes. The US planes are clearly noisier..a US thing?
There was a Pride event in a park nearby a couple of weeks ago. No big names though. Some cringeworthy karaoke type “artists” but some great ones. TheTom Jones tribute chap was awesome. It finished at 7.00 pm...a shame as it was generally good.

Been to lots of gigs and some festivals and normally it's been disappointing. With larger gigs then often you're so far away you're lucky if you can make out the band on stage through the sea of brightly lit smartphones held aloft, and even if you can then they're matchstick small. You queue for hours and pay a fortune for a watered down Carling in a plastic glass. On top of this then there's the ever present threat of some d*ckhead launching a pint of their own piss high into the air from somewhere behind you.

Not even sure I even get it from a listening to music perspective as the sound quality at a gig is always far inferior to listening to the bands album on a good stereo system at home. Plus the band will normally subject you to an hours worth of their new cr*p before reeling out the classic tunes that everyone came to hear anyway. Wonder why I still bother sometimes!

West or east? I'm west of the festival.
I'm maybe 3 miles west (As the crow flies)

I like the festival, brings a good atmosphere etc...

This year it was horrendously loud. Much louder than it has ever been. It wasn't just hearing it, I could feel it through the walls! I could hear every word that was being bellowed.

Very hot and the windows were open. 3 young kids trying to sleep with that heat and noise didn't make for a very pleasant evening.

Friday night went on till almost midnight, Sat and Sun they stopped on time (11, ish) as they should. Annoying when you get woken up at 5 am by children, absolutely exhausted.

It was relatively quiet during the day, but they crank it right up in the evenings.

It is annoying, being blasted by crappy music in your own home, (Foo fighters were ok) not able to sleep till someone else STFU. But it is something I knew about when we brought the house, and most years i do rather like it. This year though. Atmosphere or not, it really was loud.

Quite impressive for the sound to travel 10+ miles.
When I lived at the west end of the Polden Hills I could easily hear the Glastonbury Festival from 16 miles away. (With the wind blowing from the east).
