In the market for a new (to me)car and have been looking at A4 Avant's. I've recently had a V8 Cayenne (in the ME where fuel cost wasn't an issue) and an E Class coupe. Wife has a Mini Cooper so need something a bit larger with a decent boot.

Got up to 13k to spend but wanted to get an idea of which diesel/petrol engines are the ones to go for?

Also, in terms of spec, the Black Edition appear to command a hefty premium over standard S-Line spec. Eg 2012 Black edition can be the same as a lesser spec 2015 S-Line- is it justified?

Last Audi I had was a TT-petrol TFSI which under my ownership was faultless.

Any current/previous owners offer some insight?

I had a A5 Black Edition, to be honest I don’t think it’s worth the premium. It’ll have bigger wheels, Rear dark glass and a better stereo. If the non-Blacks are considerably cheaper I’d get one of those.

If you're after comfort, the non-BE models with slightly smaller wheels and softer suspension are a better tide anyway.

Black the front grill out separately.

Considered the A4 Allroads?

I like the way they look! And will mean you have a car that's a bit different to all the standard a4 avants on the road.

I had an S line company car (A5) as I couldn't get the black edition. I added the B&O sounds system and sun protect windows as that's all I wanted. Main difference then (2014 model) was black inlays, black brightwork, bigger wheels, dark windows and the B&O system.

They do seem to command a hefty premium on all the audi models

I had a 2014 A4 s-line Avant with the 140 TDI engine and does loved it, very nice car to be inside, great internal space and just a very good daily car.

It wasn't the fastest thing on the road but it certainly didn't feel underpowered, by comparison I now have a Volvo V60 T4 which is the 180bhp model and I can't say it feels any faster than the Audi.

Unfortunately mine.was.stolen in a burglary last December or I would still have had it now, it turned up a week later smashed up with someone's blood on the inside so was written off. I do miss the car though
