Or you could just get a cluster/ECU repair place to correct the mileage on the new "used" cluster...and save all that faffing about.

Seems a lot of work for what you admitted was really only needed for a few months until you get more used to the car. An OBD port reader (The ELM327 ones seem to get decent reviews, so that's the one i got) is around £5 then just download a free app like Torque and it will display the RPM. Takes less than five minutes to connect it all up.
I don't know the Picanto very well, but having had to work on instrument clusters on other cars they can be a long job with lots of hidden screws and levering of delicate plastics to find clips.
Well it's also kind of a thing I fancy doing, for the sake of doing it, as my last car was a Citigo on finance and whilst I desperately wished I could muck about with it and change the radio etc, I never could because it had to go back as standard as possible, so this is the first car I've got that I can mess about with, just for the sake of it! biggrin

Exactly this! Keep it simple!

hmm.
Facebook Marketplace keeping popping up with catalytic converter buyers and also...

"mileage correction" companies...
guess 99% of those customers are wanting "mileage correction" before handing back 5k/year lease cars...
.
but as you said on a cheap car it might cost 50% of what the car is actually worth...

As above, just record the mileage and inform any potential owners.

As an aside, with MOT checking app's you can see the mileage history so it will be very hard to hide it anyway. Not saying you would of course

It won’t affect the immobilser on a Kia, it’s mostly VAG and some Ford stuff that run through the cluster.

There will be an obd port if you want to go that route but I’d guess a used cluster of an otherwise similar age/spec car would be 90% likely to plug and play.
Plenty of Vauxhall stuff won't work if the mileage on the cluster doesn't match that on the ECU too.

Anyway, to the original point. As said, it's only illegal if you're trying to misrepresent it

The car is only worth £350, and my dad has already said when I'm thinking about moving it on he'll take it off me and keep it as a worthless runabout for their dogs until its wheels fall off, so no need to worry about mileage issues when selling it on.

Was just unsure as to the possible repercussions from the DVLA/other organisations for not having a true representation of the mileage within the car or something.

I may be worrying about nothing, but I wouldn't plug anything unbranded (or at least just a brand no ones's heard of) like this into my car's OBD port. I know it is supposed to draw data FROM the car, but whose to say it is not downloading crap into the car's systems?

Don't fancy the chances of getting some Chinese factory to pay if they do damage.
You are being a silly billy. Shhh...
