Really? You do know the origins of PayPal?

Oddly enough, not everyone has the origins of every company committed to memory

$13 lost, just learn from it and be glad you didn't lose anything significant.
Your crystal ball is working well, as when i took the empty case to the post office, the cost to send it back to china, was funnily enough pretty damn close to 50% of the purchase price I paid .....they've worked it out well.
Didn't bother sending it and waiting for PayPal to get back to me

Is it really even worth bothering with. Yes they've ripped you off (also happened to me a while back) but not worth the headache of it all. Mine was a similar amount lost BTW but just took it as lesson learnt.

if ebay and paypal they charge the seller for postage to reimburse.

As out of ebay I would take 50% refund otherwise you get nothing

PayPal declined my dispute, waiting to see if seller will honour the 50% refund, otherwise I've got nothing
Its a relatively small amount of money, but I won't use PayPal again for any company I've not dealt with before, not worth the bother.

It's annoying, but when I think about, I feel sorry for these people, a bit like when you go abroad and people are trying to rip off tourists to get by. My life is, in most cases, much better than theirs.

I have been "had" before but luckily got my money back from PayPal, I was able to return the fake item, although the seller was very unhappy and insisted I was cheating him. Now I am very sceptical of any transactions people want to do outside of ebay, or payments sent as gifts, also prefer to buy new and from reputable dealers even if it costs more.

This seems to be a regular occurrence with Chinese sent products, their adverts are full of errors and lies
Indeed !

I purchased a laptop battery (for about £35), not from Ebay but from what appeared to be a UK website - address in Manchester and promising delivery in a few days.

I paid with PayPal and assumed that I would be covered. After a couple of weeks, the battery arrived - from China; it look used and didn't even fit my laptop. I complained to PayPal and I was told to send the battery by recorded delivery back to the supplier; when they (PayPal) received notification of the return, I'd get back my £35.

Two points - batteries are a prohibited item and cannot be sent abroad (from the UK); secondly, even if I could have sent it, the cost of tracked postage was about £30. There was now't I could do - they made £35, by sending me a 'duff' item.

If you do a search on Ebay for many items (especially, electrical) that are being sold specifically (apparently) from within the UK, a significant number are actually supplied directly from China or Hong Kong. Giveaways, are when they show Union Jack flags within the advert - almost always, these are Chinese adverts.

I have the same problem but different item. It was a joke purchase for my wife as she always moans about being cold. Really glossy advert came up on Instagram, about a heated bodywarmer £35. Bought it and 2 months later it arrives and it does nothing. Doesnt event turn on, I swear theres no element inside at all.

Logged a dispute and offered 50% refund which I declined as its a scam. Paypal dont seem to care and have instructed me to send it back to china for a refund. Paypal are stating I need to provide proof of postage, so my plan is to scam them back. Post an empty envelope back to china, which will be cheaper than sending the item back and get my proof of postage. It cant be tracked outside of UK so job done.

Basically its a scam to sell anything as you cant sent it back without incurring costs that make it not worth it. Its a one way street.

I have had 2 bad experiences with eastern sellers, first was a car radio, which they swore would work, just plug and play, it didn’t, and couldn’t be made to work either, I raised a not as described case, they did the various discount level offers, I declined, and pointed out it was more to return the radio than it cost, I got a full refund, as eBay sided with me. The 2nd was a blatantly fake HDMI adapter, which was also item not as described, and refunded, seems weird they are not supporting you on this.

I wouldn't purchase anything which plugs in from these sellers as you've no idea if they are safe (chances are, they are not). I certainly wouldn't buy something electrical which I would wear!

Who isn't supporting the OP? eBay? He didn't purchase through them. PayPal don't care, they get their comminsion whatever transpires.

Well I finally have an issue with PayPal, always worked well before. Purchased a internal bearing puller kit from a seller in china (yes I know), and when it arrived all I got was a empty plastic case, no tool inside.
Complained to the seller, who immediately stated I could keep the case, and have a 50% refund, or return for a full reimbursement, cost was $26.... this to me rang alarm bells as an intended scam, or otherwise they would have insisted it was sent correctly.
I refused as it would then make me out of pocket either way, as I couldn't reclaim postal costs, seller reiterated their proposal, so I escalated it to the PayPal resolution center, who have sided with the seller, and I have to incur postal costs to return a empty case
So now i either loose the whole amount, which would be silly, or faff around sending the bit they sent me back, with proof of postage, pictures etc, and lose the cost of doing so
PayPal protection my arse.
Similar thing happened to me. Chinese seller has Chinese business address with PayPal but shipped item from Germany. PayPal required I send the item back to China which I couldn’t do due to it being hazardous (part of battery exploded). Provided fire services report etc but PayPal reject my appeal because I didn’t send it back to China.

I've been caught like this, bought from what appears to be a UK seller & PayPal insist on tracked return to China, (item was delivered unsigned for) next time I shall just say it hasn't arrived, get the order cancelled & refunded. One item was clothing for my missus, it would have been a tight fit on a Barbie doll, they suggested a partial refund & that I could keep or sell on the clothing, I argued that the listing claimed to be a uk seller & this was a major consideration in the purchase, I did get the full refund on that occasion & gave the item to my grand children for their dolls.
