Her missing spare key is probably at the Police already. Lost outside on another day.

How can she easily prove that it’s hers though? spin

She badly needs her car.. searching for key panicking.... man finds key... says your not getting it and shes just "oh ok dear, have a good day goodbyeeee"

Wished woman was like that round my way. He would have been lucky to get away alive.

Call the police now - it's stealing the keys by finding.
She must call the police!
Yep, if you find lost property you have a duty of care and are expected to hand the item to the police/lost & found as appropriate depending on the item/location at the earliest convenience.

Also, I find it hard to believe that someone leases a car and has no paperwork whatsoever to confirm that it is theirs and giving this random good Samaritan your insurance document to take away is bonkers. I'd definitely be giving the 111 number a call and be speaking to a lawyer to before contacting my insurance company to report lost keys - some policies have a specific process for dealing with a lost key situation which could involve contacting the manufacture for a new set.

Just show them the bank statement with the funds going out every month and tell them to ring the lease company to confirm who they lease it to.

Who's to say this chap is using this time to clone a new key? When she gets the keys returned, she ought to get it re-coded.

Agreed. Think the OP has now distanced himself from this farce. Think I will too.

A great expression! There's been some seriously fruity responses on here too. I do hope we find out what happens at the end of this though.

Knock knock.

Crunch as door falls off hinges.

'Hi. I found this donkey outside. Is it yours?'

'Do you know who I am?'

'No.'

'Ronnie Pickering.'

'Who?'

Boom!

All sorted.

The guy posted the key through her letterbox late last night so she found it on her doormat this morning

She told me he was mid 30’s and his wife is a police officer, so maybe something to do with that.

She said she was just so surprised he didn’t give them to her when he knocked on her door the first time.
He held them o it right in front of her face and she was so excited and thankful he found them and when she went to reach for them he snatched them back and said he needed proof.

It’s been a bit stressful as she’s been relying on lifts and an unreliable bus but she’s just glad she’s got it back now.

Guy is obviously just a strange one or on a bit of a power trip.

Just reading the thread wound me up, the guy sounds a complete tool. He needed a firm talking to. Did he use the phrase "computer says no" at any point?

There are simply loads of ways to prove the car is theirs, contents of car, insurance paperwork (I could call mine up on my phone in seconds), reg doc (I know, it doesn't prove ownership), other keys on the fob which open other stuff.

She was shocked as she had a child seat in the car and although not an immediate neighbour, is a known local.
All very strange.

Indeed.

Man knocks on door "Are these your car keys?"
Woman answering door "Yes, they are"
Man at door "No, they aren't"

Sounds like he has got his Mrs to run the vehicle through the computer to get keeper details to confirm her story.
