It may be that the manufacturer certifies the accuracy of the device up to a certain distance provided it is correctly calibrated at points below that.

I would think as the speed of light doesn't change, the sensitivity to the increasingly diverting beam (and it's return) is being checked.

Wow! - If only people had thought of questioning the calibration of the equipment used to prosecute them for speeding in the past!

Aye, thanks for coming. That's the sort of response that makes me keep coming back to PH. If I was trying to get out of something that I hadn't already accepted responsibility for, you'd be a winner here. Did you even read the thread before having a cheap shot? Have another go, you know you want to!

Yeah, that's the bottom line, and I've been advised it's the accepted norm in the industry. As said, I was never going to contest the NIP, but when it's suggested to you that you view the associated images and certificates, why wouldn't you? I did, saw something that begged the question and asked it. As usual on here, most people respond reasonably, others don't seem to know how.
