Other driver pranged barrier while overtaking.

Point of order, the collision here did not happen 'in a village', unless your definition of in a village is that there is a row of houses adjacent to (but well below and away from) the road where the bus stop is.I wouldn't have overtaken at that point, as there's a partially obscured entrance to the offside just afterwards and there's too high a chance of something emerging. Otherwise, proceeding with caution past some slow moving/stationary cars stuck behind a bus blocking my lane, no problem with that. Many drivers, for all sorts of reasons, don't wish to take an initiative to pass when they can. I'm sure we've all sat in a queue of traffic behind a tractor where you hit a long, well sighted straight and the lead cars choose not to overtake.
Probably two pieces of bad driving happened here; the 4x4 driver was potentially going too quickly to safely deal with the OP's wife making to cross his path and the OP's wife failed to make proper observation before changing lanes.
Sounds like there's unlikely to be any downside on the OP's side of things, so all's well that ends well (for them).

It's an inhabited area (unlike the other video).

An observant driver would have noted that the turning on the right is a dead end road.
If the bus didn't take it, there is a high probability that there will be a stop somewhere on the main road prior to the village name plate at the other end.

Agreed. There is no way I would attempt an overtake until after the turning on the right (the village name plate is immediately beyond it). janesmith1950 said:

Split liability: maybe. I think the pickup driver might face an uphill struggle though. Much depends on their position in the queue behind the bus. janesmith said:

Hopefully. Just as a resolution to this, I called the insurance people for an update on this and they have closed the case due to having had no contact from the third party.
I've also bought a dashcam so that things will be more clear cut should something else happen in future.
Thanks for the advice/debate 😁👍
