If you ride one without a helmet you're an idiot. I always wear one. Mind you, you're an idiot if yu ride a bike without one too.
You're an idiot if you walk down the street without one. You're an idiot if you get in a car without one.
You're an idiot if you get out of bed without one.
That should just about cover it.
Wearing one on the loo is also imperative. Falling asleep on the bog and smashing your head on the sink firkin hurts (dont ask how I know)...
Rotten lot.
Not sure if this has been posted, haven't kept up to date lately.
Road map from WMG, part of Warwick Uni. Quite an interesting read

Interesting, and infuriating in equal measures. A roadmap for years more of trials and consultations and think tanks and academic studies and lobbyists and advisory committees and basically anyone with an interest in making money from the legislation process lining their pockets and getting well and truly in the way of common sense.Road map from WMG, part of Warwick Uni. What an incredibly crap and drawn out way of doing things. We've turned into a nation of health and safety quangos.

I wonder if eventually a form of moped licence for electric scooters will be the norm, so you do the CBT you just have it evergreen, no need to pass your bike road test within 2 yrs (or whatever the current criteria is)
I don't see why when you can ride an E-bike without any of that.IMO it looks like the law is being abused to prevent legalisation by the overly risk averse and the people getting paid to drag this out.

That these things are still not legal for private use is getting beyond a joke.
The government passed all kinds of laws 'because Covid', but it seems they don't want to pass anything 'because fuel costs'.
Though with all the money pissed up the wall I shouldn't be surprised the government won't give us a break.
Suspect the UK blame culture may play a part. Widespread e-scooter adoption would be followed by numerous newspaper stories with people showing their injured compo face and blaming the govt for legalising small wheeled scotters which are inherently dangerous on badly maintained potholed roads. The government passed all kinds of laws 'because Covid', but it seems they don't want to pass anything 'because fuel costs'.

I be interested to see what stats are around for injuries. Suspect they may be hard to get. Nobody will report an injury accident if they hurt themselves riding an illegal vehicle.
Serious injuries might be available from hospital data but I have no idea how that is collected and if there isn't a box to tick for e-scooter maybe it won't show in the stats.

Don't worry, whatever the government come up with, you can guarantee it will be extremely complicated and onerous. Bristol A&E released some stats last year, they treated 90 injuries in one month at an average of £1000 per injury.

So perhaps in 2025 private E-scooters may be allowed? What an incredibly crap and drawn out way of doing things. We've turned into a nation of health and safety quangos.

I was quite keen on the potential for electric micro mobility stuff. All this faffing around has made me decide I’m better off running our old ICE scooter into the ground. Donbot said:

That's because of weird laws that say the e-bike has pedals so its not *technically* a powered vehicle, an e-scooter is being treated like an ICE scooter - sans helmet.IMO it looks like the law is being abused to prevent legalisation by the overly risk averse and the people getting paid to drag this out.
It would be good to get some sort of resolution, it's been 'trialled' for long enough.

Our esteemed government keeps banging on about bonfires of red tape and bureaucracy, but in reality loves every bit of it.It would be good to get some sort of resolution, it's been 'trialled' for long enough.

Absolutely. They apply that 'theme' to everything. I work in housing/development, and several times over the last 12 years they have promised to simplfy and improve the whole system of planning and building control. We have been promised sweeping changes, a revolution, yet they just keep U turning, backtracking, and fudging around with it all.
Backwards Britain.

Me too, drives me insane the bloody stupid hoops you have to jump through to do bloody anything in this country.I work in housing/development, and several times over the last 12 years they have promised to simplfy and improve the whole system of planning and building control. Despite Boris and others “we are at the forefront blah blah” “ we are leading the way blah blah” the uk is the last country in Europe to come to some sort of conclusion on this, and apparently it’s going to take another 3 years before we do so.The government passed all kinds of laws 'because Covid', but it seems they don't want to pass anything 'because fuel costs'.

Bloody ridiculous but typical of the Daily Mail reading UK
