Openshaw complex which is GMP’s workshops and other back office functions such as stores/transport/uniform services etc

Equip for service/de-fleeting is contracted out nowadays as part of the supply or disposal contracts and not done at Openshaw anymore

Only some radios/electrics are now fitted in house before entry into service

And GMP doesn’t have “ loads” of Golf R’s .. just a couple

When that drug dealer got himself shot by the police on the M62 in 2017, I recall the cars that were used to stop his car were not run-of-the-mill police cars and included a Mercedes E500 that was 5+ years old. I don't recall how qualified their view was but at the time someone had made comment that the W. Yorks police had access to vehicles confiscated from criminals, and that was where the E500 came from.

(I appreciate "an unknown person on an internet forum said this" so I wouldn't take it as gospel, but it seems a reasonable explanation of how a police force can get their hands on a 5.5 V8 to play bumper cars during a time of austerity)
