For those of you who may have followed my story, I have just left the magistrates court having been fined £450 and given six points. To my amazement - no ban. All I have to do is retake my test. I cannot believe how lightly I got off.

I can say quite confidently, with my hand on my heart though, that this has taught me one hell of a lesson. I have never been so scared and will never ever do anything like that again.

Thankyou again to everyone who took notice.

Thanx, GBS

If you feel you have learnt a valuable lesson, then the justice system has served it's purpose.

I hope you will now move forward and enjoy your driving.

Good result! As has been said, you have learnt your lesson so build on it and let it be a reminder of how stupid you can be.

Yes. They dropped the obstructing charge as I confessed quickly afterwards of my own free will. The fine by my reckoning could have been a lot bigger. The duty solicitor was surprised at the leniency of it all.

It's not so much phew, as I can't believe it. It still hasn't sunk in. So here's me rolling around deliriously happy...

I sure hope so; you sure as hell won't get away so 'lightly' if you are caught doing anything like that again.

Something like that isn't worth risking destroying your relationship with your brother. Good job you 'fessed up huh?

One question, how can you not be banned if you now have 6 points? (considering you didn't have a licence)

The 6 points is outside of the 2 years probationary time after your FIRST UK driving test. I now have to retake my theory and practical which I can do immediately. Once I pass I will just have six points, but from the date of conviction.

My suit is very nice, black pin-striped not brown-striped. It probably wasn't too far off though.

Hi GBS,

I'm glad it's all over for you and the penalty has not been too bad.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

Good for you GBS - nice to see that doing the right thing gets treated properly and not unfairly penalised.

Here's to passing your test and getting mobile again!

Am glad it went alright for you, Liebchen. Just make sure you concentrate on passing test und read a book about "Owning a car" - published by DSA. Tells you all you need to know about your responsibilities und a bit about maintenance too.

Und do not do anything so silly again. Told you would not get locked up

I had no sympathy with you at the time but am glad that it wasn't as painful as you anticipated.

As said by others, it was a hell of an experience so learn from it and move on.

Enjoy the rest of your life!
