Some w@nkers keep parking in my office parking spaces on weekends as we're located close to the city centre shops. I'll be damned if I'm going to pay to use an NCP because of some cheap little chancers, so what can be done about it?

We're thinking about bringing in a clamping firm but I heard/read somewhere that you need a license these days, not only to clamp people, but to employ clampers?

I really don't like the idea of doing business with clampers so are there any other options available?

Very little I'd guess.

Park Place?

Akchewally, what about them post things you sink in the front of the space? When its not being used you just pull it out of the ground and lock it.

Nope, but close. Just round the corner in St Andrews place, the circular street around the church.

It's a rented office so anything which could permanently damage or deface the property won't get ok'd.

What about a sign that threatens clamping, without actually hiring the goons?

Paste a "Don't park here moron" sticker on their windows with some glue that isn't easy to get off.
Not going to solve the problem of chancers but it must make you feel a tad better at the time.

I might start claiming their wing mirrors and open up a little shop on eBay Motors

For info. on clamping look at the Security Industry Authority website. I think the site is: www.thesia.co.uk

You don't have to be licensed to empliy clampers, but the clamping firm must be licensed and it is an offence to employ an unlicensed clamper.

Just make a whacking great big sign that says 'clamping - £200 removal fee all times'

Problem solved.

Couldn't you "borrow" their no. plates for a weekend? (not that I'd condone this sort of thing )

You could start with notes, especially if it's regular abusers. On a recent newsgroup thread various types of glue were suggested to attach the note to the windscreen. "No More Nails" was voted the most damaging, then Vaseline as the best thing that will appear to have been removed but will always cause a smear. Applying various subtances under the door handles was also suggested. Obviously these sorts of things would be criminal damage and hence not recommended.

Another idea us to park your car(s) in such a way that it is impossible for them to get out.

Had similar prob last year. Private block of flats with large gate which is infra red control near mainline station.
5 regulars had the 'neck' to drive into the residents car park, leave their cars and catch the train to London for work.
Could never catch 'em to speak to them as they parked so early and collected vehicles at different times in evening, often as late as midnight!
Printed suitable worded 'notices' and glued to side window of each vehicle one morning.
RESULT:-
They all went balistic! They had come to believe they 'owned' the place!!!!
3 disappeared for good when advised i would flatten all 4 tyres if they did it again.
1 returned a few times, so 'pasted' the windows with notices which took her ages to get off before she could drive away for good!
Final one, Audi TT driver needed the local police to remove. He used to often leave it overnight!

I'm told that tipping a packet of frozen prawns into the air intake for the heater is efficacious. Especially in warm weather ...

(I have some self-adhesive sticers that say "Selfishly Parked" which I stick on the windscreen in front of the driving position. You can buy sticky backed paper that will go through a laser printer from any PC supply place.)

I used to know a guy with a similar problem. He solved it by spraying a little circle of paint from an aerosol on the windscreen right in the drivers eyeline. People soon got the message.

Apply for a clamping Licence. Put up the signs etc. Then clamp them and profit from it.

Do you need to have a licence to clamp if you do not ask for money.

My old college used to run a 24 hour policy. If you were parked where you shouldnt, they clamped you, for 24 hours then released you for free. Effective and no where near as moraly reprehensable as asking for large amounts of money/sexual favours/their first born son.

Where I was it was very difficult to get parking permits; you needed a "good enough" reason rather than cash... Offenders were clamped on a sliding scale, i.e. £5 1st offence, £10 2nd, £20 3rd etc.

Only one of my mates managed to blag a permit but the rest of us worked out that there was only one clamp. Therefore we came to the arrangement that if any one of us got clamped, we'd leave it on the car as long as possible and blag lifts from the others until such time as you desperately needed access to your own car. Bliss.

Until they cottoned on and went for the big sticky notices on the windscreen option instead
