Story in yesterday's telegraph. A woman has been banned after being pinged at 40, 43, then 40 again in a 30 limit within 24 minutes. She already had nine points.
I'm not a fast driver
and
I didn't even know there was was a van there, it was literally 100 yards after a fixed camera at the bottom of a hill. It's a bit sneaky.
Sounds to me like she's a founding member of the 40mph crew.

SHOCK: WOMAN GETS CAUGHT 6 TIMES FOR SPEEDING - "I'm not a fast driver".

Maybe, but you're not very observant are you?

If I was on 9 points, I would not go even 1mph over the limit, stupid cow.

caught that many times with that many points? Maybe someone with observation skills like that doesnt really have what it takes to drive more than a peddle bike.

She sounds like the type who thinks it's a compliment when someone leaves a note on her windscreen saying "PARKING FINE".

Liebchen. It takes great skill to ride a pedal bicycle properly. You have to be more road aware as well.

Which ist why if I ruled the world - there would compulsory cycling tests und anyone who failed at third attmept would never cycle und never get provisional licence!

Einfach! as have not accounted for one mit the dodgy knee who could never manage to pedal a bike.....

But back to story... she slowed perhaps for the Gatso - but missed the van. Ist sad ignorant numpty who needs to know about COAST - nicht?

There are some numpties around who do not even know about the v-v-vans! Ist scary. But in any case - if it was police, why let her continue after first one. Why not stop und tell her und prevent further problem (but she'd still have totted up even so at the first one). Ist not working und perhaps ist biggest argument to push for the first offence - Speed Course to try to get COAST in place. In 14 days - how many times might she have been copped? Or had an accident?

Anyone know if she has a history of accidents or if the road previously had a higher limit?

I would need to see the road before I pass judgement on the speed she was doing.

Given that she was consistently going above 40, it may be an inappropriate 30 limit.

I realised that as soon as I hit enter .

Wow, amazing that going so far over the limit so many times in such a short space of time, she didn't crash and die before being scammed again and again!

Maybe speeding isn't as dangerous as they say

Given the operating practices of many Scamera vans I'm not sure that failing to spot one in time is necessarily a symptom of poor observation.

It wasn't a camera van , it was a cop with a hand held device, so he could have been very discrete.

Sneaky cnuts

If I were her I would give up my (shop assistant) job and claim benefits until I got my license back!

Quite. Maybe she was looking for hazards like ('untethered') children in the vicinity, loose dogs, cars pulling out of side turnings and so on.

Not being able to spot a van (assuming it was a van) which may have a camera inside behind blacked-out windows may not be a symptom of bad observation.

It may well be that the speed limit is inappropriately low, a great many are.

I saw this article in a newspaper this morning but it wasnt clear what the method of detection was - I thought cops with guns usually pulled you over for a little chat? I thought it was only the vans/fixed cameras that automatically sent out NIPs?

the Telegraph said:

A woman has been banned from driving after she was caught speeding by the same mobile camera three times within 24 minutes.

Police using a hand-held camera caught Jill Hunneman, 47, a shop assistant, doing 40mph, 43mph and 40mph in a 30mph zone on Nov 30 last year. She was first caught at 12.33pm as she travelled from her home in Plymouth, to a chemists to pick up medication for her son, Ross, 22, a haemophiliac.

On her return, at 12.48pm, the speed camera caught her again. She was caught a third time at 12.57pm, as she went to a fish and chip shop to buy her lunch. Plymouth magistrates banned her for six months, with a fine and costs totalling £150.

Thanks. The woman is clearly an idiot. Even the most sneakily placed Plod can be spotted, even if it is too late to avoid prosection - failing to see them 3 times is ridiculous. The article I read said that she had been caught speeding 3 times before - twice in the same spot as the most recent ones!

My father has been driving for fifty years without any apparent observation problems, in the last five years he has been done by mobile scam four times and has never seen one!

I pointed one out to him once and he asked how i knew what it was, even though it had the big stickers all over it

A lot of people are perfectly safe drivers, but they just have no idea about these new fangled safety camera's. Why would they worry about being caught by them, surely they only catch boy racer's right?

She certainly had a case for 'same incidence occurrence' in my book: particularly the mobile unit that was almost immediately after the camera. I've not seen the full report though, so I don't know for certain - but a good litigator may have been able to reduce this to one offence, two at the most, and the saving of her licence could have been achievable.
