Just got my new V5 for a car I bought a week ago.

No problem...
Likewise. My driving licence however hasn't reappeared, nor the cheques cashed.

No problems at all. Bought car, did on-line transactions and received new V5C 5 days later.

I sent off for a change of address request back in the first week of April and only just got my new V5 so lead times seem to be all over the place, but they are working their way through a rather large backlog!

Fair play to them.

My photocard was due for renewal at the beginning of June. I was expecting a reminder letter to come through in the post, maybe a month or so beforehand but given the delays at RM I decided about five weeks prior to the expiry to simply apply online, to get myself in "the queue". Amazingly within a week a new photocard had arrived, plus I've just had a VED reminder through which is due at the end of the month. Seems to be pot luck how long things take at the mo'.

I sold my car on February 12th. Still no refund.
Two e-mails and four letters and 17 weeks later and still nothing. Just paid out £580 to tax another car today. I suppose someone is there for that.

I did the same .. they are ok at taking money. They owe me an assignment of a plate on a car from Feb too. I had to resort today to posting them a letter asking them what the status is, I have a feeling that they won't find the original documents I sent them and they will ask me to request a new V5 and retention documents.

Hmrc/DVLA are govt institutions, they SHOULD be open. None of them are 'working from home as there's absolutely no service, there'll be furloughed on full pay sitting on their arse doing fk all. There's millions working with social distancing in place, there's absolutely no reason DVLA staff can't be at work, all it takes is gloves, a mask and a screen.
Useless lazy fat desk jockeys the lot of them..
I am firmly in the camp of our resident barrister, whom I have never met. This post is tripe of the highest level of stupidity.

My wife's licence renewal (medically restricted licence, we thought it had to be done by post/paper as the renewal letter indicated but the website now suggests you can renew some restricted licences online) finally came through today after waiting for a good couple of months, so they're clearly at least starting to work through the backlog.
If anyone's in a similar position, there's some legal basis here - https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/inf1886... - that allows for driving while waiting for the DVLA to process a renewal.

When did you post it out of interest?

7th April apparently - just found the receipt for the click & drop postage label I bought for it.

I'm kind of hoping they start to get though the post backlog soon.

My Father, who has recently had some surgery that required DVLA notification, sent off his form to find out if (or more likely how long) he'll be banned from driving for (his discharge paperwork did say to notify the DVLA and not drive). It can't be submitted online so it's just a waiting game at this point......

I've resorted to just checking my bank account every day. As soon as the cheque clears for each of the two things I've sent them, I'll assume something is being done.

I would have got my paperwork to them earlier and possibly had it back a long time ago, but I had to wait 10 days for a chequebook from the bank, but that's another story.

I'm getting a different car on Friday.

I'll be driving around on someone else's private plate until DVLA take it off the car. It couldn't be done online for some reason and a paper form has been posted to them.

The whole change of owner cannot be completed until DVLA decide to do some bloody work.

My driving licence is due for renewal in a month, I've not had the reminder through and my passport has expired, can I still renew in a post office without the reminder?

Thanks

If it is the photocard which is due for renewal, as opposed you actual licence, then there is an automatic 7 month extension for any that expire between 1 February 2020 and 31 August 2020.

You don't need to do anything and DVLA will contact you at the end of the 7 month extension period.

I read that too, and was slightly surprised, since they don't bother contacting drivers normally when their photocard expires. Lots of drivers have expired cards without realising it.

Not exactly correct, DVLA send out a reminder of expiry just before the expiry date.
