I was trying to contact HMRC and went through all the options only to be cut off twice at the end so gave up.

And I was trying to give them money as well !!
Thinking back, I got cut off after a process of selections which meant the system decided I didn't need human interaction. I tried again, this time choosing my selections carefully to maximise my chance to speak to someone and got through after a wait.

Sent in all the paperwork for change to Historic at the beginning of March, including not cheap Heritage Certificate.

I had retaxed the car at the beginning of March, for 6 months, knowing the car would be exempt on April 1st. What I want to know is will they have the nerve to deny the full amount of refund on the VED from April 1st or indeed will I even get the supporting paperwork back?

Most of HMRC are not working too.

Bet they are all off on full pay.
There's a critical distinction being missed here. They are employed by HMRC. That doesn't necessarily mean they work for HMRC. As the old reference letter goes "You will indeed be lucky to having this man/woman working for you..."

This is probably the only time that the 11% of us with all paper licences are better off.

Unless you have turned 70 during the lockdown.

What a fking joke, tried emailing them and I just get a response with the phone number that is closed due to cv 19. And now they are apparently ignoring mail. wkers. So I'm stuck paying tax on a car that I no longer own and cannot get it registered to the new keeper. Useless aholes as always.
Awesome Mr Angry. Have you not spotted that Covid-19 is causing quite a bit of disruption and hardship? Well. not the mention the suffering a deaths. But hey, clearly you are right and DVLA have decided just to put their feet up, drink beer and wait for it all to be over.
Awesome Mr condescending. Do you not think it's pretty important these things are kept on top of? So we are just meant to wait and let there be a mountain of applications for various things when they get bored and fancy doing a bit of work again. Then predictably the whole system will be backed up and things inevitably lost etc. I Dare say if it was having an impact on you you would feel differently about it. Irritates me even more when I'm seeing quite a few frankly nobodies being called key workers and still working. It's either serious or it's not and legislation cant seem to make its mind up.

Very good point.
Fortunately, I'm 51.

Our V5 arrived today. We sent it off around 3 weeks ago to have the taxation class changed.

Why? A photocard can expire, but that doesn’t affect anyone’s entitlement to drive.

That's interesting (and good to hear)! Did you physically send them paperwork? (Guessing yes as you "sent it off"!

Most of this stuff can be done online quite easily? Renewed my licence last year online took a few minutes, obviously that does require you to have a passport which I see somebody above doesn't.

who the hell still uses cheques?
I just renewed my dads licence online about 3 weeks ago (70 years old). He doesn’t have a passport. Not been abroad in 40 years. All I needed was his old licence number and national insurance number. There is a section on passports to fill in but it is not mandatory. His new licence arrived about 2 weeks later, so during the lockdown period.

Well we did via the PO...they did their bit and then took the old V5 bits they needed and sent them off.

Sorry if I misled.

That's just ranty nonsense. You don't even know what key workers are.
