Renewed my license online last week, the new one arrived within a week. Needed a valid passport, but the process was painless.

They are working.

I just used the Gov MOT checker as my Moho MOT was due 15th May and the checker now says its due the 15th November.

Whilst I knew that the Gov had extended them by 6 months I was surprised to see their MOT checker had been updated as well. Fair play.

That never happened, because according to the parlour room gobstes here, DVLA are closed and all the staff are bathing in champagne with supermodels while laughing at you, the poor taxpayer.
Sounds awful, where do I sign up? hehe

Well since you are interrogating the actual DVSA MoT database, so it should! Last time I had an MoT, the 'checker' was updated within minutes, its real time data. Well, close to anyway. smile

It's this data that is used to validate buying / renewing VED.

Well I'm still waiting, and starting to get a little concerned. On 23rd March I sent off a form to request a new V5 as my son had lost it for his car, which he actually sold to my daughter ages ago. We never got round to it (same household so why bother?), but as we are trying to sell the car we need the V5. Still waiting, and cheque not cashed yet.

On 30th March I sent off a V750 and my V5 to take the private plate off my car (can't do it online because of some ridiculous rule about the car being SORN'd about 18 months ago). The new V5 has never come back either, and i sold the car a few weeks ago. The buyer got so jacked off with waiting he came over last week and took the car off me without the V5. I've checked online and the old reg hasn't been switched off yet.

So I'm waiting on two V5s, one for a car I've actually sold and is no longer in my possession, and one my daughter needs to sell to pay for hew new one.

Hmrc/DVLA are govt institutions, they SHOULD be open. None of them are 'working from home as there's absolutely no service, there'll be furloughed on full pay sitting on their arse doing fk all. There's millions working with social distancing in place, there's absolutely no reason DVLA staff can't be at work, all it takes is gloves, a mask and a screen.
Useless lazy fat desk jockeys the lot of them..
I think the fat useless lazy desk jockey is the idiot that writes posts like this...

Well my V5 finally turned up this week. I bought the car mid March! I just put my private plate back on so I expect the new V5 with the private number should be here for Christmas smile

I've been waiting for a V5 (from a V62) and my license renewal for over a month now. Still nothing.

I don't have a Passport and have not yet received a letter inviting me to update photo. You can't use a form so I emailed them about 4 weeks ago. They replied they are only dealing with 'key workers' and didn't answer anything else . I've kept the email. Sure they will write eventually
My photo card expired 24 May, I had a letter mid April. I don’t have a passport either so went down to the post office in early May to renew, had my new licence through last week so that service is definitely working at present.

I sold my car Tuesday last week, did the notification online a cheque for the tax refund arrived Tuesday this week. I cannot fault that at all.

Unlike Direct Line Insurance who, when I eventually get through charge me £48 cancellation fee, post me a revised schedule today for the cancelled policy and a letter informing me a cheque will be heading my way in a separate letter for the refund.

£48 cancellation fee!! I also have building, contents and another motor policy with them. The agent tried to tell me the insurance regulator sets this fee. Is that BS?

I'd say it definitely smells like something messy that a bull produces!

I have a policy with Churchill and got an e-mail from them on the 21st saying they won't charge admin fees if you reduce your mileage expectation for a refund, and like all Direct Line policies Churchill ones are also underwritten by UK Insurance.

Anyway, back to the DVLA. I had an MOT done last week (19 May) and because of the 6 month extension the test station certificate expired on 18 May 2021 because in theory it wasn't due one, although last year's didn't expire until 24 May 2020.

I e-mailed DVLA that evening and had a reply from them before 10am the next morning with a new certificate attached showing expiry on 24 May 2021, so they are definitely working!

I have this crazy theory. Bear with me. My wild theory is that DVLA is run by... humans. Some of those humans are good at their jobs and get stuff done quickly and correctly. Others are not so good at their jobs and are slow and make mistakes.

Also, there is apparently a thing happening in the world at the moment that is apparently shaking things up a bit. This might, maybe, be affecting DVLA. Whatcha reckon?

That's a bit steep. If it was a 'revised schedule,' do you mean you completely cancelled or moved cover to another car?

A shame too because I've been with Direct Line in the past, and they make no admin charge for a change of car, just an adjustment pro rata (most firms have an admin fee for this). They also made no admin charge to me when I changed the car registration number. Seems they make up for it in cancellation fees!

You're wasting your breath Breadvan - I tried pointing out the exact same thing on page one, back on April 22nd:

Hilarious!

The whole World has been hit by a potentially fatal virus, resulting in a World-wide disruption, the likes of which hasn't been seen since World War 2.

Everyone has been told to stay at home wherever possible, avoid going out as much as possible, and to work from home if they can, and yet people on here think the DVLA should just ignore all of that, all be at work, carrying on as though nothing is happening, and provide the exact same service, to the same level, as they did before the virus struck!

rolleyes
Apparently, DVLA workers must be immune to COVID 19, and should not be affected by the virus in any way, shape or form!

To be fair to Direct Line they have indeed waived the cancellation fee as I requested. I do think I was wrongly informed during the online chat however. Thanks for putting this right Direct Line.

Bought a new car just prior to lockdown, been waiting on the V5 since late March and there is no way at all to query it seemingly... I guess I'll just wait, unless anyone else has managed to get hold of them? Can't even find a number. I have the new keeper slip and invoice etc for the car.
