Then stop avoiding the obvious question!
Have you been to have a nice chat with the lovely people behind the customer service desk at tesco?
No, he is busy at the bank again.

Good luck.

Let us know how you get on.
Thank you.

I am not old, weirdo is subjective I guess. Dont know why this has turned into personal insults. Ive asked for helpful suggestions in resolving the matter, not to have my life critiqued. Very narrow minded bunch you lot. Would appreciate if this can stay on the topic of the helpful advice I've asked for. Doubt it will though somehow.
You had some helpful advice from me above re civil recovery and ignored it!

I havent ignored it, as ive said I am genuinely grateful for those of you who have offered helpful advice, yourself included. My comment was because I'm getting a bit fed up of some contributors being like a dog with a bone on matters other than the advice I've asked.

So have you been back to the petrol station for a chat?

Apparently it's 10 miles away from his home - Too far to travel to sort out a petrol payment problem!

Lots of shops aren't taking cash now - so it'd be a good idea to get 'up to speed' and invest in a card of some sort for payment.
It's also much less of a contamination path.
Only for the shop assistant. Very much a contamination path for customers who all have to tap in ENTER. I have not seen keypads cleaned between users.

Having said That I manage to get home without touching my face before washing my hands.
As already mentioned, you can use contact-less for purchases up the £45.

For purchases over £45, if you're that worried about touching the keypad:

To the person questioning how I get my cash, i go in branch every month ish and draw out cash.
Really? Dont you feel like that is a waste of your time?
Guessing he is old or just a weirdo.

No one normal acts like this.
My dad is in his mid 70s, still draws cash out at the beginning of the week. Doesn’t pay any bills by direct debit. Goes to the post office every month and pays his bills.

He can’t comprehend why anyone would let a company guess what the bill is. Send you an estimate which you just pay. Then at the end of the year they refund what ever is overpaid. His answer is I’m not a bank I don’t lend people money.

Whilst I find it infuriating and can’t comprehend it. I can see his point. He doesn’t owe anybody anything and they don’t owe him. Just how he likes it.

Anyway op sorry to derail your thread a little by I can fully understand you wishing to do all transactions in cash. Some people prefer it.

I thought Tesco were sticking with £30 contactless limit AND £30 limit on Apple Pay/Android Pay (which most other retailers don't limit)

This is attached to all the pumps at a local jet petrol station. If you can’t pay £100 fine which you agree to pay.

I just laughed when they turned up. Spoke to the manager and said last time I buy fuel here. When I explained the signs he seemed to think it was acceptable that if you had to leave to collect funds it was okay to fine/invoice you for the privilege. True to my word I have never been back since.

People make honest mistakes and charging someone £100 extra on top of the fuel is bks. I’m not sure how enforceable it is.

Unenforcable because, quite apart from any other difficulties, the terms of the alleged contract are uncertain.

"Up to £100", and the " may be reduced" bit create uncertainty.

I've been back Into the petrol station that this all began at. Spoke to the same cashier that I dealt with when I couldnt pay for the fuel. They had the paperwork there that I filled out and also when I went back to settle the debt, with PAID written over it.

Issue seems to be that the cashier who I spoke to when I settled the debt failed to process it correctly hence the confusion. It was obvious to the petrol station manager that I had settled the outstanding amount, they tried contacting I think the debt collection agency. Presumably that wasnt as straight forward as they had hoped as I was then taken over to the general store to speak with one of the managers their.

Very nice bloke who apologised profusely, has taken my contact info and is dealing with the matter personally ASAP. I will be cc'd into his email correspondence with the debt collection firm, he expects it to now be dealt with and set straight quickly and easily.

Do you draw any conclusions or life lessons from this episode?

Have you said to yourself at any time "Well, I won't do that again. Next time I will........."

No need to climb on your high horse, I said early on in the thread I intend to sort one of my accounts to work with card. The day the initial problem occured I was pretty distracted with other things on my mind, normally open my wallet and check what I've got before filling up. No ones perfect, I made a mistake. It has prompted me to take more care of important receipts and documents, not my forte admittedly.

I am glad that you got it sorted, OP, and I agree that all the high horsery is misplaced. You made a small blunder, and have now resolved it. Yep, a card is useful.

Well, I have a certain amount of sympathy for your situation.

However, surely you must see that you contributed to the problem by not paying by credit card and/or keeping the receipt.
