Hi chaps

Finally happened - got pulled tonight doing allegedly 107mph

Obviously a bit pissed off about - they followed me for 6 - 7 miles from the M20 interchange to past clacketts. Bit of light traffic so probably was doing from 70 - 100. But of course they didn't stop me when i was doing 95mph but wanted until the downhill section to the A22 junc 6 section.

I'm so careful about driving at these speeds and keep an good eye on everything around me - indicate etc
Apparantly they were 5 -6 cars behind me - so couldn't spot them.

Vascar - no video evidence and they should be another reading of 103mph - not sure why the didn't stop me at 103?
So looks like a hefty fine at best and a possible ban I guess - suprised they didn't breatherlize me nor did the do a vehicle check ?

That's if they don't decide to give you an SP60 (Undefined Motorway Offence).

I was lucky, I spotted them, just after they spotted me. Pulled into the nearside lane and cruised at 69.999 mph until they stopped me about 5 miles later.

Hope you get away with it.

Likely 28 day ban plus £250 fine. Bonus with ban is no points!

Waste of time getting a solicitor IME.

A fine isn't the big issue - rather not pay but the worst case is £1000 (not pleasant) but the higher premiums on insurance on 2 cars and a bike is going to cost a fortune over the next 5 years !

So wonder what the best scenario is in view of insurance premiums ?

Clean licence (at the moment) driving for 20 years -
No question of driving dangerously or recklessly,
Car needed for livilihood etc - should get away without a ban - but is that a better course to avoid higher insurance ?

This is interesting: I have an SP60, which I understood was "undefined speed limit offence", and googled it to check. This is what I found.

SP10 Exceeding goods vehicle speed limits
SP20 Exceeding speed limit for type of vehicle (excluding goods or passenger vehicles)
SP30 Exceeding statutory speed limit on a public road
SP40 Exceeding passenger vehicle speed limit
SP50 Exceeding speed limit on a motorway
SP60 Undefined speed limit offence..........

Paul continues: "The problem is that SP60 should normally only be issued when other offence codes do not apply - for example at a temporary speed limit at road works."

Thing is, mine was issued for 71mph in a 60 (apparently - it was dual carriageway and I thought NSL, but that's a different arguement). So, my point is, should I contest the SP60, as it should be an SP30? Bloody Gatsos.

If you successfully avoid a ban with an "excessive hardship" plea (you won't, unless driving is an ESSENTIAL part of you job, like a rep or taxi driver), then you will receive at least 6 points. The effect on your insurance will likely be the same. Personally, I would prefer a short ban.

Being able to drive is essential - but depends on the magistrate - Of course where I live doesn't have any type of public transport for 3 miles - but you never know.

Hard luck Woof. As always, my commiserations to you.

I don't really like the term 'get away with it', but in essence that is my feeling, and so long as you were driving carefully and safely in accordance with the conditions, I hope you do manage to evade serious punishment.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

was there not a thread recently where IOLAIRE advised someone to plead not guilty to an excess of 100mph (no video evidence), and when it got to court admit to a lesser speed? Everyone got a result all round, guy got 3 pts + fine, and CPS got a prosecution, everyone happy.

Yep - however i believe the basis of that case, was that there was only one police officer in the car - so he had to operate the Vascar system, drive and watch the mile markers. Quite rightly that ain't on really !

I did ask when the Vascar system had last been calibrated and that was on the 12 June (3 days earlier)

Might be no points - but potentially one heck of a loading from insurers over a ban!

Lieber woofy - check mit pepipoo. Get solicitor und work mit solicitor to arrive at suitable grovelly letter emphasising hitherto "blameless" driving und so was - yet being remorseful over your little "adventure" .

Of course, you could always of course tell them you were "testing" your car - but somewhow I think a frosty mag may not appreciate the humour in this!

Regarding insurance: My licence is currently clean, but in the past I have had a 6 month ban for totting up, twice! And a 28 day ban for a single offence. None of them affected my insurance premiums much.

Now you've said that, I'm pretty sure you're right. I got mine a while back now, and the ol' brainbox is getting flaky!

I'm sure there were no roadworks though! Just a plain old "Get out of work late - Bloomin hungry - bomb down the motorway to try and get home for some tea".
