Looks like the biggest problem PistonHeads has is the lack of BAME contributors

the biggest problem? yeh.. it must be. i doubt anything is more pressing than the requirement for diversity.

thank god they don't have to worry about keeping the servers running, preventing them from being compromised, keeping advertisers on board, keeping the current user base interested with new and relevant content, collecting revenue, laying staff off, having most of their workforce remotely working etc etc.

Got stopped a few years ago, police man wandered over with the usual "Can I have your name please". I replied very politely "Yes sir, it's Dr Ivingli Cence", he looked a bit taken aback, not sure if it was because I was a doctor or if it was the foreign name. Anyway he asked for some ID so I showed him my photocard ID.

He looked at it a bit surprised, thought about it for a few moments and replied "No sir, that's a driving licence"!

White, British born man, haven't been pulled over for nearly 15 years, and only pulled over twice I think as a teenager driving a modified car to not particularly high standards if I'm being honest. Passed the attitude test, reminded about only needed 6 points to lose licence and start from scratch if in first 2 years, sent on my way.

I said between 5 and 10 times.
Never without good reason.
I will have been driving fro 50 years by the end of October.

Some of the instances:
Pulled by an unmarked car on the A46 Lincoln bypass (Lincoln is the roughest town on the area after Skegness) on 1st December for no MOT, tax or insurance. I had actually done all three three the previous day. Policeman was polite (I am in my 60s, well-spoken and white), allowed me to stay in my car and asked me if I could furnish him with proof. Smart phone had receipts for two of the three, by which time he lost interest. It seems the Police National Ipad wasn't quite up to date

Pulled by a marked car that had passed me on a town street as I was driving at about 25 mph, but in first gear, in a not-quiet TVR. Was told that it was a nice car, and don't do it again. I was not asked to step out of the car.

Pulled by a snotty woman in an unmarked Mondeo who had followed me in a short queue of traffic for ten miles in the dark, on a twisty country A road that I used to drive every day. I overtook the car in front on what I knew was the only safe short piece of road for miles around, without speeding. She did the same overtake on the next blind bend and then pulled me over. When she questioned me, she accused me of dangerous driving. I told her I was driving safely, and accused her of dangerous driving. She shouted at me for 5 minutes and then drove off in a Huff, which I understand is a special police variant of the Mondeo. I was not asked to step out of the car.

Pulled over at 11.45 pm on Christmas Eve, driving home from London in a brand new Lexus GS 300. "Evening Sir, is this your motor vehicle?". "No, officer". "Oh (shocked look on face), whose is it then?" "It belongs to Marshalls". "Do they know you are driving it sir?" "Yes, it's a loan car while they find a fault on my even bigger but not as new Lexus". "Have you been drinking sir?". "No Officer" (so tempted to say No Ossifer, but the wife would have killed me). "Please blow into this breathalyser, sir". Yet again, I was at no point asked to step out of the car.

So my conclusion is not that it is necessarily an ethnic thing, but more a case of me seeming safe to your average traffic policeman.

In my youth, stopped at 4am on Gloucester ring road in an oldish Ford van. They asked us (me and mate) to empty out the back of the van, imagine one lane of the road festooned with bunting, flags, marker boards advertising just about every British company who ever supported motor sport. Yes we were marshalling on an all-night rally and travelling between special stages. Only other time years later stopped, like everyone else, leaving a pub late on Christmas Eve. Ironic, as I was probably the only driver who hadn't had a drop but I was fetching my then teenage daughter who had been waitressing there. At least they saw the funny side of it smile Other than that I can't recall anything other than being stopped once for speeding in a 30 when they actually had people operating the cameras.

Five times in 11 years, three times this year, twice within a week.

Reason, first time I was supposed to be wobbling all over the road, this was a couple of months after I passed my test.

Second time for no insurance, had insurance, the reg no was incorrectly entered on the computer, took over two hours for two officers to sort it out.

First time this year was in January, I think I am being profiled, maybe bacause I am small or because I am blond! driving a van, got to a difficult junction, took my seat belt off so I could lean forward to see, a few hundred meters down the road was stopped and issued with a fine.

Couple weeks ago stopped for petrol coming home from Wales and couldn't be bothered to put my shoes on. As I left the station saw a police car and the officer stopped me advices me I could be charged if I had an accident after enquiring if I had taken any substances. Three days later I was stopped for doing 83 in a 70 zone. I had cruise set at 80 but let me off.
