I can't remember, is it that half of Sweden's population lives alone, or half of households are one person?

I admire them for not following every other country, but their situation is very different to England, with densely populated areas and muliti-generational families.

My guess would be that Germany's outcomes would be a better comparison to the UK.
yeah but you try and explain that to people like Phil. who do not understand how different countries have different numbers due to different factors like:

culture
how people live
number of people/km etc

the simple fact that Sweden is what 80% ? bigger than uk.. has 50m less people etc do not come into mind when talking charts and graphs.

https://www.bmj.com/content/370/bmj.m3765

I keep saying the above but it wouldn't work if they actually used common sense on compared Sweden to it's neighbors who are doing much better.

when it comes economy, deaths, cases etc.

So "we can't compare except when you want to compare"? Ever heard the phrase 'cherry picking'?

I don't think it's a binary comparison/no comparison and there are probably some useful comparisons to make. I have seen it suggested that compared to Norway and Finland Sweden had fewer flu deaths last season, leaving more susceptible, and it's documented they didn't protect care homes well.

Proper assessment of how well their strategy worked can't be made until we see how their wider health and economic outcomes pan out over Winter and into next year.

I've asked before. Why are Sweden's rates lower than ours? "Sensible advice"? What is it? I got the reply that they kept schools open, but I'm not sure that would reduce the current Covid numbers. One can claim masks dont work, but as far as I'm concerned the rest of the advice has been similar over the summer, and now we having a increase in deaths?

Stockholm is as dense as many other European cities but their death rates are minimal without ever having lockdown etc. Explain that phenomenon.

You won’t though cos all you spout are your uniformed personal opinions and never refer to science which might disagree with you self-limiting engrained never changing beliefs, sorry ‘common sense’. You carry on believing that the Swedish live alone in houses a mile apart and never socialise, it will stop your brain from overheating from the possibility of discovering the truth laugh

1600 people on average die in the uk, every day.

If they didn’t, we’d have much bigger problems than (what is for most people) a sniffle.

Average age of male death in the UK = 82
Average age of male covid death in the UK = 83

This is the worst time of year for death of elderly people, specifically to respiratory diseases.

About Sweden. You and grudas keep spouting uniformed opinions rather than facts about Sweden and then pat yourselves on your backs for being correct. It’s just we can’t be bothered to keep trying to educate you guys anymore so we let it pass most times laugh

you're literally what I'd classify as ignorant.

it sounds a bit desperate right about now Phil.

Doubt that you'd have a pair to admit being wrong either.

What facts have I said about Sweden, besides their somewhat poor performance with Corona? Especially compared to countries that have performed way better?

I'm asking you why you think they are performing better? nO lOCKdoWN? Is that it? If we lifted lockdown, would we return to Sweden's numbers?

My prediction is that there will not be a significant rise in COVID deaths over the next 3 months but this won’t be due to any movement restrictions imposed by government but because the COVID virus is following its normal course. Let’s revisit at Christmas and review the facts.

Out of interest what’s your prediction and why?
I think it will. Think we have had a good summer, and people have been able to socialise outside and have been weary. I think people have relaxed a bit now, and come winter people will be in closer proximity (indoors, Christmas, etc), and that just means a virus is more likely to spread. So I think until some drastic measures are put in place, the numbers of infection (even accounting for whatever false positive factors you want), hospitalisation, and deaths will increase.

I'm not sure what the "normal" course or this virus is. I know viruses generally have a "second wave".

So, I've got my prediction, you have yours. Lets see who's theory will be right. Shall we just use the Woldometer stats?
Great smile Let’s see what happens. Happy to use Worldmeter stats and add in other sources where applicable and reasonable to continue the debate.
Lol.
