Anyone else had this?
I was stopped on the A24 dual carrigeway just outside Horsham this morning.
Two policemen in a patrol car had a quick look in the back of the van (a Renault master) and took a few details.
They gave me a yellow copy of the paper and let me on my way. Section 44 terrorism act 2000? All new to me!
I have no problems with this at all, they were very polite and effecient.
The van I was driving had my name in big red letters on the side, surely a terrorist would have a plain or hire van?
One more thing, he said I need to send off for a new license. I still have the fold up paper one which I have had for about 25 years!
When will it be illegal to have my current license?
I would like to keep it as proof that I have had no endorsements, at all. Something I am very pleased with.

3. Will Everyone Have A Photocard Licence?
There are no plans to recall paper licences. You can still use your paper licence until it expires or until you have to send it to us to change any details on it. We will then issue you with a photocard licence.
Gary, the Terrorism act 2000 covers specific areas for certain periods of time. In the Met it has to be authorised by a Commander or above.
They can search the vehicle for anything which could be used in connection with terrorism. The piece of paper you got will probably not have a great deal of grounds on it, unlike a normal stop/account slip. All it will say is that you were stopped under the Terrorism Act, and maybe the name of the Senior Officer authorising it.
The main difference between this and a normal stop/account is that the Officers do not need grounds to stop you. You merely need to be within that area at the time.

Would have had to be at least an ACC for the Horsham area. The written statement need only be provided upon request (within 12 months of the 'stop'). There appears to be no definition in the Act of what shall be included in the statement.
BTW - the police powers to stop a vehicle under the Terrorism Act 2000 do not include an aircraft in flight ... funny that

But Liebchen.. I talk mit the funny accent... und I set off alarms all over the place (ist the metal pins in me legs und arm....) (ist a bit of worry if I take airplane... und they do not believe my little card explaining any more like they used to... they now know my body better than the Mad Doc at this rate...) My dad used to work at various docks in the eighties when all the bombs were going off. It used to take him twice as long to be allowed than everyone else. Strong Irish accent, lots of electrical equipment in a plain white van etc etc....
