Got stopped on my "nifty fifty" CC moped back in 1986, not so much for speeding but a fearsome bking from the Biker cop about how wearing a T shirt and jeans on a bike, regardless of the obscene 2hp it kicked out was daft, totally daft. I didn't know what "gravel rash" was, nor had I realised that wearing gloves would stop my fingers and hands being ripped down to the bone as they're the first thing to go out in a spill.

Told me that if he saw me wearing a T shirt and no gloves again, he'd pick my moped apart with a tooth comb and throw the book at me. Initially resentful, it didn't take long for me to understand that he'd cut me a break and I was an idiot. He really laid into me, but to be honest, it was not wasted advice.

Speeding, been let off with a couple of naughties, nothing bonkers though, usually 5 or so above the limit. Still managed to get caught by an effing Cam though.

I was pulled for doing 30mph in a 30mph built up area when challenged, the copper said "I was driving suspiciously slowly", he then went to town checking over the 2 week old hire car that I had, I took my torch and went around he's police car, he found nothing on mine, I found a number plate bulb out and one of his front tyres was wearing very thin on the outside edge, he had the hump with me when I told him jokingly that id let him off with a warning this time but to get his defects repaired. I was a lot braver back in the day. I suspect he was bored, pissed me off though.

110/115 in a 70. Overtook an unmarked car on the dual carriageway. They said if they were traffic officers I’d be off to court. To this day I don’t know what department they were with. I’ve worked for the police for the last 11 years and it still bugs me.
As an educated guess, I would say it was an ARV. I use that line all the time as do a lot of ARV colleagues.

Earlier today.

Caught up with a silver Fiesta just past Wymondham near Norwich - coincidentally where there is a large Police HQ.

I was in the outside lane and I came barrelling up behind it, realising too late it had a police sticker on the back bumper. After checking my speed I crawled past at a steady 70. When we reached the lights at the next interchange he pulled up beside me and waved at me. I wound down the window and he said "If I'm doing 70 and I see you catching me up in my rear view mirror that means you're speeding. Slow down." And that was it. I didn't say a word, nodded in the right places and hopefully looked contrite.

I suspect that if there had been two of them in the car I would have been pulled over but as it was him in whatever-silver-Fiestas-are-used-for-by-the-police, with no camera, it would have been my word against his. i thought I had the cruise control on at 70 - his opinion would suggest otherwise.
