I’m looking for a bit of advice. I live in a terraced house where our garden backs on to the houses behind ie there’s no lane/path/road separating the houses, the garden itself is very small, it’s more a yard than garden, think coronation street and you’d get a good idea of what I’m talking about.

We use our garden in the warmer months like an extra out door room but one or maybe more of our neighbours is smoking weed which absolutely stinks, it’s so bad sometimes if we have a window open at the back of the house we can smell it in our house. It’s very annoying especially as neither me or my OH smokes or takes part in recreational pharmaceuticals. So why should we have to put up with this putrid stench? Is there anything that can be done about it?

Any help or ideas would be good. Thanks.

Ask the neighbour not to smoke weed when you want to use the garden?

smoking or growing?

smoking isn't against the law but growing carries a big charge these days.

I'd ring 101 and say next door has a grow on. and you've seen shady characters coming round at all hours.

I assume they won't be the type of people who would take advice from a friendly chat

I'm afraid it's just the nature of living in close proximity to the hoi polloi.

Our neighbour went through a similar thing when the house next door was rented out as an air bnb and their kitchen would fill with the stench from whatever strain of weed the guests were smoking. Initially they asked the guests to consider the smell and they stopped for a day or so. Once they started again the landlord was contacted and they gave the guests the option to stop smoking or leave. Obviously that's not so easy for you but I'd start by talking with them first and go from there.

We need to treat it the same way as we do alcohol. It's amazing how many people think it's not a problem though.

If they are smoking at home, they aren't causing any trouble.
Just let them get on with it.

Surely by definition that the OP is complaining about the smell, they ARE causing trouble.

It fking stinks, I wouldn't be happy with it either.

"Fortunately" the peasantry within the range that actually affect me express themselves through the volume of their robust domestic discussions, rather than getting stoned.

Though as long as I'm upwind of them, maybe the weed to mellow them out wouldn't be a bad option.

Cigars would smell a hell of a lot worse and be totally legal.

Cigars don't smell anywhere near as bad as weed.

Far worse for me. That said I live in South London so no point trying to worry about weed smell. It's everywhere all the time.

Nothing better than smoking a fat Cuban, with the roof down in the old Merc.

I find the smell of weed very cloying, although the stoners are blissfully unaware...

Someone mentioned people smoking weed in traffic, which is out of order, but got me thinking…

Do your neighbours drive after they smoke? If so you could report that to the police on 999 for the same reasons you would report someone if you saw them stumble out the pub having had lots to drink and get in a car.

The other half lives in a terrace house. The bloke who lives 3 houses along is a chronic user.

The smell even comes into the house even though the windows are shut, when he smokes it in the back garden.

He has no lawn or plants but has 4 sheds. One of them never has frost or snow settle on it and it emits a strange light from the top vent.

He drives as part of his job, servicing scanning equipment in hospitals.

It is a rancid stinky stench.

If they like the smell so much, why can't they smoke it indoors?
