Masks in cars get me. Fair enough in a taxi, or if you are giving someone a lift, ok if it's not your car, but I've seen people in their own cars, on their own, wearing a mask. Would you not just run a Dettol wipe over the inside instead if you were that bothered ? I regularly see a chap go past our house in his convertible, with the roof down, wearing a mask. It's just odd.
MASKS SAVES LIVES - DONT YOU UNDERSTAND ?

have you heard of anyone catching it while driving with a mask on?? there you go -proof!

What if someone can’t wear one because of legitimate psychological/traumatic reasons?
They could shop elsewhere.
And you’re ok with that being how we treat people then? For the reasons we’ve been told?

Currently living in a country where face masks are required from the moment you leave you house until you return with the exception of being alone in a car, being alone in an office. Even riding a bike requires a face mask.

Asthma and other issues do not give an exception, its hot here +32 at the moment and will be +37 soon, still no exceptions, honestly I wear the mask in the car by myself because I completely forget its there after 10 mins.

The fines for not wearing a mask start at around 300 pounds and if you continue to refuse third offence and you are taken to a quarantine facility, essentially you lose your right to be be free.

Draconian but I have not seen anyone outside without a mask for 2 wks now.

No, but my feelings on the matter aren’t important. If an establishment wants to enforce these rules then all power to them; I’m sure they’re aware they are alienating a small percentage of punters and are happy with that compromise.

Where on earth is that? Sounds awful.

I saw those signs in the smaller villages in the lakes. We just didn't go in. Didn't like the attitude.

Most places are chilled now but my local pub are super overzealous . I don't go there any more and I was a daily visitor before.

I'm in the South West and the covid map is almost entirely yellow/white. You have more chance of getting run over, and yet, they all march along in their masks, in the street, in their cars. It's depressing.
Why is something that doesn’t make any difference to you at all “depressing”..?

The place I buy my work supplies from still only allows 1 customer in the premises at a time and a mask is compulsory.
Ironically most of the staff don't wear a mask and they go out twice a day in the vans delivering.
It is completely illogical

I applaud the shop or pub who enforce mask wearing rather than relying on other customers having to challenge or remind those who have forgotten their mask or have decided that they don't have to comply.

Other customers who do challenge people who are not wearing a mask are often met with abuse or belligerent behaviour - as if they are the ones in the wrong.

If the staff aren’t wearing masks neither would I.

Oh great. Another PH thread dealing with largely hypothetical situations which 99.999% of us either won’t experience or couldn’t give a toss about.

Then you aren't allowed in

I forget to mention the front door is locked, you have to ring the bell and a member of staff comes and lets you in....if there's no other customers in and if you wearing a mask, otherwise they will serve you at the door lol

To be fair pretty much everybody not wearing a mask at the Supermarket today clearly had some kind of underlying health issue, mostly fat middle-aged balding blokes. I'm surprised more of them weren't in the mobility scooters.

Its half term so about 75% of the people walking and driving along are tourists from other, presumably higher occurance, areas of the country and they are probably more used to wearing a mask.
I often find myself still wearing one on my walk back from the supermarket simply because I forgot I was wearing it, not for any political reasons.

Plus with the South West having a much higher percentage of 'aged' population they need infection rates to be much lower.

Although along with the last three peaks helping solve the pension crisis, a new resurgence of Covid in the SW (from being rammed with visitors from higher infection rate areas last week onwards) could also solve the problem of no affordable homes for local folk .

When driving round town and making several quick stops I will keep my mask on throughout.

There’s a little convenience store near me which is also a UPS drop-off point, so I use it most weekdays. One day a few months ago at least 6 signs about wearing masks inside appeared on the door and side windows. I mentioned to the owner that it was a bit over the top and she said it was something the local authority made her do with the threat of fines if she didn’t. She also said she wasn’t bothered either way if customers wore masks or not so I think the over-signing was her two-fingers to the LA.

Masks are one part of simple common sense precautions to reduce ( not eradicate) transmission. I am happy to wear one where it is required. The trouble is there are too many self important “ rules don't apply to me” t***s about. If you have a genuine reason to not wear one then that is ok. Atthe moment the UK is in a fairly good place re infections/ spread so itwill not be much longer before we will be in the “ low risk so live with it ” stage.
We have had a cycle of lockdown/ release as infections reappear due to relaxation of guidelines and creation of conditions to cause spread. We don’t want a repeat and the only success this Gov has had in the vaccine program has been a game changer.
Covid is here to stay with variants as with other viruses so we are about to hit the live with it stage. Likely The Boris target date despite Variant D .
Yes there are stupid inconsistencies in rules and their interpretation but basically it is down to individual responsibility, something we seem to lack.
Me? I’ll wear a mask when needed or required. No big deal.
Why the big fuss? There are both deniers/ entitled and jobsworths on each opposite side. If someone becomes over zealous then my action is to just go and take my business elsewhere. I dod once question an over zealous person asking them of their knowledge of viruses/ epidemiology and pointed out their errors before leaving.
Anyway, we will soon have much less restrictions. Not quote pre Covid normality but close.

What is it to do with them? I was 'challenged' by a fellow customer the other day. Why do they feel they're allowed to assess other's heath? I politely made the point that they were morbidly obese, burden on NHS etc but it wasn't my place to judge/assess etc. They accepted the analogy and agreed this whole situation is a mess.
