COVID, and to a lesser extent the rules and regulations have made it a much more formal affair and consequently something people are less likely to do on a whim. There is also the fact, as highlighted above, that people are going to be less inclined to go back to venues where mingling with people is guaranteed, particularly if they feel that the people going there are of a “masks are muzzles, fight the power!” disposition - so hospitality stuff is probably going to have an uncertain, probably negative future anyway, pubs most of all.
Except that, in places which have lifted restrictions, that's just not the case is it?CrutyRammers said:

Except that, in places which have lifted restrictions, that's just not the case is it?There are scientists and people with knowledge of infection and trending making decisions here, we have already seen people on here state its seasonal when the reality is that it is not. the full picture and data set properly interrogated and understood ?

That survey was "as of Dec 2020" ..... During the pandemic.. I'd expect the figures to be even lower.
It actually says for 2019 to 2020 but no figures can be totally accurate. There cannot be any official figures, it's not like it's a question in the census .All figures come from a poll and then a multiplier added.thewarlock said:
This thread has taken a weird turn.
The village I grew up in has a population of around 5500.
There's one pub.
Do some of you really believe that most people go the pub on a regular basis?
Not at all, but a lot still go. The village I grew up in has a population of around 5500.

A lot less than when I was in my 20s, but still a lot. Our village pub is heaving on the weekends and Sundays.
Even pre pandemic I'd expect survey results to be at or under 50% for pubs (not including eating out). Most guys I know go out at least once a week and most of their partners do not....
But most people I know of either gender go out for dinner occasionally.
A weird turn indeed, but far less aggressive and patronising so far.....

...which is easily disproved by packed stadiums recently in US states which have lifted restrictions. And packed bars in eastern europe. People are quite happy to go back to venues and mingle with others, as soon as their governments and media stop spamming them with nonstop fear porn.
