I used to wonder why the motoring public tolerated increasing authoritarian crap, with hardly a whimper.
Then I came to terms with actually, who gives a fk?
Now I realise that an overwhelming majority actually support these new restrictions. My viewpoint has been out of kilter since 1965
It's the same with other things, if you can't be trusted with a dangerous item, they take it away. Then I came to terms with actually, who gives a fk?

When they introduced the ban on guns, were you up in arms and crying authoritarian crap, or was that different?

The Royal Society for The Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) reported that in the UK (2018), 186 people were killed in crashes involving someone exceeding the speed limit.
An average of 666 people were killed in drink driving related accidents in Great Britain each year
Yet we plough how much money, time and resource into 'speeding' to help reduce road deaths?
How many more old fashioned patrols could we afford to catch the dangerous / drunk / drug drivers that we've spent developing, installing and maintaining the thousands of speed cameras and limiter/limiter infrastructure ?
oh and lastly, just for 'fun' - 5691 suicides in 2019 - how about tackling some of that and making a real difference.
I agree A logical point which I could have made before enlightenment. An average of 666 people were killed in drink driving related accidents in Great Britain each year

The demon is speed. It kills. Propaganda makes this 'fact' unquestionable. Buck that doctrine at your peril.

With the appropriate licence/permit, you can still have a gun. Extreme case in point: the prick who had his permit renewed a few weeks before killing 5 innocent people near Plymouth, 'cos he wasn't getting any!!! Did drivers abuse their rights so nanny was forced to remove them? Didn't realise that. Smacks of treat people like children and they will act like children, but perhaps that is what the government wants?
Someone I know, works for a supermarket delivering stuff. He regularly sets the speed limit or to 25 mph as he drives into the compound and hands over the van to the next guy without turning it off.
Usually they turn off to pack the next delivery in, but occassionally they leave it running to keep it nice and warm in the cab.
Apparently some of the other drivers have complained about the van. Main dealer can find no faults.
It's the little things that keep you sane.

If autonomous cars are safe and don’t crash, surely they don’t need to be speed limited?
Prospect of 200mph autonomous capability on dedicated lanes? Restrict moronic humans to 50mph? https://www.inverse.com/article/28110-self-driving...

Can you remove a speed limiter?
Currently, the regulation permits you to switch the speed limiter off.
So... It's still going to be a button to press if you don't want it?Currently, the regulation permits you to switch the speed limiter off.

Maybe this is where flying cars will come in - leave all us dinosaurs on the ground driving whereas all the self driving (flying) take to the skies
Modern passenger planes are almost fully autonomous so self-flying cars may not be so farfetched. But unless VTOL, we would need more airfields Gassing Station | Speed, Plod & the Law | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
