This week, in South London, I saw what appeared to be an unmarked Ssangyong Rexton ARV which had pulled over a car to be searched.

It was displaying rear blues and reds and looked very impressive.
Not a London vehicle.

God, imagine being unfortunate enough to have that on the fleet.

Probably a demo car

There have been a few liveried Ssangyongs out on evaluation with different forces recently

Must be on trial then, and certainly not an ARV. Look like parks police to me.

Definitely not an ARV.

Parks or the poor sods attached to the TFL Traffic stuff?

Sod having to drive that on blues.

The X5s and XC90s are bad enough as it is hehe

Showing my age to recall as a small child Morris Minor panda cars. Probably worth more than the Rexton nowadays, though I suspect the Rexton has the edge when it comes to handling!

I suppose they are buying what they can get at the moment, the fleet will constantly need new and replacement vehicles

If ssangyong can provide vehicles then why not?

The cops have a history of buying some seriously st stuff going back decades

From Allegro’s to Zafira’s giving cops crap cars is nothing new

Surely nothing beats Escort Cosworth (which ironically got nicked and was never seen again)

I'll see your Escort Cosworth and raise you an RS200,

I think this was just a photo op though not used in anger.

Humberside police had a couple of RS200's that were used on the roads
Don’t think so

As far as I know the only liveried RS200 was C829FHK (No 122) which was owned by FMC and used in Essex Police livery for promotional work

There were never any owned/used by the Police
Plus the fact that the RRP on the RS200’s was £50k back in 1985-1987. God only knows how short the service intervals were on them, and how much many of the bespoke consumables would have cost.

I had a Zafira 1.8 Elegance for a while on demo back when I used to sell Vauxhall’s.

It wasn’t actually as bad as I expected it to be. Whether it would be suitable as an Area Car or not, I’ve no idea.

Shoguns are being replaced with Outlanders. The Ssanyongs are new to me, never seen one or heard of them. But then we have all manner of randon stuff turning up for different reasons / departments - there is zero communication or feedback between the users ( cops ) and the organisers ( faceless civilians in offices somewhere or working from home ).

Exactly this. We have an issue in that a lot of cops are just basic drivers with no authority to use speed exemptions. We were told that the force would be using the vehicle telematics systems to deal with basic drivers who exceeded the speed limit. Sounds fair enough but I emailed fleet suggestion that if they were going to do this they should perhaps get some vehicles where you are able to actually see the speedo when driving (you can’t in the current Peugeot’s if you are sitting comfortably). They couldn’t even be arsed to acknowledge my concerns.

What utterly dreadful management. I genuinely feel sorry for you guys. It must be so demotivating.

We have a "reflective learning" policy in our area, little to no sanctions, no interest in enforcing or bettering driving standards, its abysmal and one of the main reasons I left. They claim to teach driving excellence, yet in reality its a free for all bun fight, with multiple vehicles damaged by unauthorized drivers, and hardly any comeback.

Glad I am away from it.

It is par for the course, and has been for years.

All you need to do is look at the news, and you see the same recurring theme time and time again, across many areas of policing. A history of problems within leadership and management.

The void now between the frontline officers and the middle management is huge. I don't even know what half of them do, other than pretend to care whilst sat working at home and feathering their own career path nest.

I’ve always favoured being a small fish in a big pond, able to speak to the Big Cheese about any problems if needed, then at least I know exactly where I stand.

Of course it’s never going to be like that in the Police Force or any other Government department, which then screws us all over. The guys on the coal face, the service users and the taxpayers.

Is this something you and the many other disgruntled others have tried speaking to your local MPs about, or even the Police Union, (does such a thing even exist?).

I wonder how much money could be saved nationally by firing off a load of pen pushers and wannabe politicos? I wonder how many more proper Coppers that could pay for?

On second thoughts, I probably don’t want to know the answer. It would just boil my blood pressure.

About 6 weeks ago on the M56 in Cheshire, the local constabulary passed me in their swanky new sneaky spec toy. A Cupra Ateca. I caught it up on the Junction 12 roundabout.
