Of course TfL would deny it. Doesn't look good in the headlines. Just like most of the road policies they come up with.
Action 18 on page 26 of this TfL document says:
We will challenge the culture around speeding in London by:
• Significantly enhancing police capacity to enforce up to one million offences per year by 2024/25 by drivers who continue to speed
• Implementing new safety camera technology that will enable the police to take action against high- risk speeders, regardless of which camera has captured the speeding offence, once approved by the Home Office. Approval is expected by the end of 2021/22
• Launch five new mobile safety cameras by the end of 2021, operated by a team of Roads Policing police community support officers, to target enforcement in areas of local concern

The policy comes from the Mayor and some time government. They are given the charter to implement and do just that. They can not make rules or plans up themself. To say look what TfL is not correct, it is what the Mayor or government have asked them to do.

Holy st! I've just looked at the junction.....

So you turned right (sorry, did a u-turn) here?

You turn left ( as signed and as you can only do ) at that T junction. Then further on, you do a U turn. If the road is clear then you can turn left and do it straight away.

The point is, your wheels and car turn 45 degrees to the left, completes the turn and you establish yourself on the road, wheels rolling and with wheels straight. Hence, you have turned left. The fact you U turn is of no relevance to the left turn only sign. So regardless of traffic behaviour, they need to signpost and enforce no u turns - which is what is actually happening.

Post a pic of your PCN, and let's see if you ever turned left at the very clearly marked turn left sign.

Eh?

I have told you exactly what I did, and how I manoeuvred. I don't need to prove it. Plus this was in 2007 odd.

Yes, and its pretty clear if you do this....

It looks very unlikely that you "completed" your left turn as you put it. "wheels rolling and with wheels straight".

So in the absence of any real proof other than angry fathers venting to the evening standard (what ever happened to that? Did everyone get refunded?) - it seems people tried to use this as a short cut and got taught a lesson. I'd certainly not have turned right there - and it would be interesting to see who would. Has the layout of the road changed since 2007? Google Maps is even VERY clear.

So I have told you what I did, and why ( and how I made the effort to complete a full left turn ) but you think I didn't. No problem.

Your third party assumption over what I did around 15 years ago must be more accurate than my lived experience.

I think we've all learnt to take your lived experience with a pinch of salt. whistle

Interesting choice of words if I may say so.

I was sure to comply with the sign by tuning the vehicle left, physically through 45 degrees, as I knew others took the biscuit.

It was a conscious effort to avoid prosecution.

Well on 2008 you would have been crossing into a bus lane to do a U turn, but no doubt in 2007 the road layout was different.

The road layout changed after I was working up there.

Lol. Bonus points if he then crossed the solid white line lane divider too.

Anyways, so far we've got people receiving PCNs for being in bus lanes that they were in, and people making dubious right turns u-turns when directed to turn left illustrating the draconian and unfair money grabbing practices of TFL.
