When were you a Police Officer? 1950?

smile

You obviously never had to deal with a nasty comment of FB, which is of course a "force priority" and scrutinized by the 9 o/c Jury.

SLT -
Monday morning "Please progress your reports"
Tuesday morning "Please don't call at 'unreasonable' times"
Wednesday morning "We know you were on a night shift, but please progress your reports".
No, did 6-2's as a neighbourhood late turn - spent the rest of my response time on old school earlies lates and nights.
I'd get upwards of 70 foreign force enquires a month booked out to me each month on top of my own crime / incident workload so knew alll about time / workload management

I’d be furious if a Police officer knocked on my door at midnight for something that could then wait a week, that is not acceptable.

And trying to compare that with a water company doing repairs at the same time is really clutching at straws.

I’m usually a fan of Von Hosen’s frank and forthright replies, but not on this thread.
Who put 50p in you?

Yet if you were burgled and the police attended to investigate at midnight you would probably be unhappy if they took a week to speak to your neighbours who may have witnessed something rather than give them a knock at midnight.

Sure it could wait a week, a month even but would you be happy with that level of service?

Damned if they do, damned if they don’t.
You’re twisting the scenario to suit your own narrative here.

Of course if my neighbours were burgled I’d expect to be woken up and asked if we saw/heard/cctv etc.

But I’d also expect a calling card with some brief details and a way to contact the officers for a crime such as this.

A scenario to suit my own agenda, neighbour burgled, good cctv footage gathered from my system, coppers go on holiday for a week and my cctv overwrites. Or burglars chuck valuable evidence over the fence and I throw it in the bin because the Police don’t leave a note telling me how to contact them.

And there's the difference. This Officer obviously isn't Neighborhoods. As you've pointed out - if you start at 6pm and your latest cold call is 10pm, that's 4 "reasonable hours" to conduct your enquiries.

Response nights - 11pm to 7am.
Response lates - 3pm to midnight. But unlike Neighborhoods, who have appointments and aren't slaves to the radio, Response could be tied up at anything at any time. I've spent whole shifts on scene guards or constant watches.

Do SLT care that we're under minimum numbers? No
Do SLT care that there were 40 Emergency calls during the shift? No
Do SLT care that there were three guards on all shift? No

Do they care that I haven't progressed my reports......you bet they do.
Every night shift - "Don't forget your victim contracts before rest days".

Spent 15yrs on response - know all about the shifts The longer 7 day shift week back then gave more chance to get work sorted unlike the present shorter working week.

Victim updates neednt be done in person - text / email / phone are all acceptable unless they insist on personal updates - this will have been agreed on at the time of report . Frequency of updates is between you and the victim - many wont want an update unless there is any new news - so not too onerous a task really

That's the one bit of nonsense you take from that - victims needn't be contacted in person.

But the reports still have to be progressed.

The most recent "folly" is - you can't have a course if you aren't managing your work load.
If me calling on someone at midnight means I'll get to do the SOLO course........guess what I'm doing at midnight.

I have a theory.

This thread is a very elegant bit of trolling by the OP, in which he came up with the most preposterous bit of police behaviour - but not too preposterous- that the police of PH would defend to the hilt.

If my theory is correct, then well played sir.

Yup. That would fit the scenario.

But, all will be revealed when the OP speaks to the officer involved and gets the full story.

Then, we can assess who on here was right and who just over reacted over something that never was.
