Police enquiry at home
Discussion
It’s impossible without the evidence. When I drive badly, especially with an overtake it would be something that I would normally remember, mainly as it would be exceptional.
In a situation like this I suspect I would be uncomfortable taking a ticket without seeing something to remind me.
Part of me thinks that if the OP really remembers nothing because someone over-reacted he will here nothing.
None of it seems worthy of a midnight visit.

Incoming some PH plod saying "well, if her phone was on, then that's perfectly reasonable".
In fairness, she didn't have to answer her own phone during the night. Greendubber said:

Why? This incident happened over two months ago. What would they need from a witness after midnight, that could not wait until morning?
The PACE clock doesn't care what time of day it is, if someone's in custody and the officers dealing are seeking out of hours CPS advice they may have to contact a witness to clarify something before getting a charging decision. I'm not saying that's definitely what's happened here but it can and does happen. In this instance I do not believe anyone was in custody and this was a non-urgent question. Whether this question warranted a midnight call, or whether she should complain about it is, in the end, up to her.

Yep, there are lots of reason why knocking a door overnight can be necessary. One bloke moaned at me once (probably posts on here) because I'd found his car insecure and smashed into wall a few miles away from his address. It had been stolen earlier that night, he had no idea it had been stolen but I was the dhead for daring to investigate a smashed up car at the side of the road at 0300hrs and shouting through his wide open front door that the burglars didn't close on their way out and waking him up.
Almost same thing has happened to me, early hours I see a car drive out of a street and something doesn’t look right. I turned around to follow it and it speeds off turns a sharp left and the occupants run off before I get a look at them leaving the car abandoned in the middle of the road with both front doors open. Anyway turns out they had just nicked it from the street where I first spotted it. I then went to speak to the owner who had a right go at me for knocking him up to tell him I had found his stolen car about a minute after it was nicked and less than half a mile from his front door. He was at work in the morning (for the border agency) etc, etc, etc. No thanks at all to me or any acknowledgment that by being proactive the only damage to his car was the ignition.

I hope both of you got the cars towed away and left the ungrateful tts to stump up the towing fee to get them back.

And it wasn't unsolicited, the OP was being charged.
