clear evidence that councils are not affected by high inflation and therefore can have budgets slashed and council tax reduced.

It's been mentioned above, but the implementation of this has been disastrous - from the consultation during lockdown where you couldn't object (you were provided with three options and nowhere to state your concerns) through to the fact that the double cycle lane stretches for only 200m. When you travel from the pier to the scout hut at the end of the lane, you can't actually contnue on the seafront path as there's a bylaw preventing cycles on the path.

Nothing really needed to be done to this area. Locals enjoyed parking up in the perpendicular bays to enjoy the sunset, far more cars fitted too. Parking spaces have now been pushed up and around surrounding roads, which have all promptly been eaten up by royal mail vans using them instead of parking in the nearby depot, and overall have made good flowing roads slower and meandering.

At a push, then a cycle lane could have been introduced in a more considerate manner, and more importantly the problem of legal but inconsiderate blue badge holders parking on the double yellows outside the cafes and causing serious bottlenecks as cars manouvered around them.

Unfortunately the madness of Bristol being anti-car seems to be leaking into the local surrounding towns, with planning and consultations for a variety of virtue signalling batty schemes, including dropping the B3133 through tickenham (a main route to bristol) to 20mph. All whilst letting the local bus services degrade to virtually nothing. The local councillors have really dug themselves into a hole with this project, and the wave of complaints don't look to be subsiding anytime soon. I wouldn't be suprised if it was all reversed later this year. If anything, people are going to look to vote them out.
Sounds like the Greens have the majority at Bristol CC now too, so I expect it will get worse. We have a 20mph limit through the centre of our village too, although you can legally still do 30 through the surrounding estates where there really should be a 20 limit.

Doesn't affect them indeed, they just get central government to fund these kind of stupid waste of money schemes.

The other bit that is ignored in this "safety scheme" is that now they've made it one way the detour for going round sends you down a busy (by small town standards) shopping street that is too narrow for 2 cars in most places when the parking is utilised (most of the time!) which can't be good for people walking on the pavements.

I've literally just seen that and certainly raised a smile.

What the hell that massive circle is all about I have no idea. Any one have any ideas what North Somerset are up to with this one?

Thought I'd posted this before when that roundabout was posted but clearly not (or I'm going blind).

That's not a roundabout, THIS is a roundabout

It is on the Promenade in Douglas. There are two of them.

As you can see from that Streetview, they are completely ignored.

Ah, I thought it was a plan for sunny Weston. It's a very long time since I was last on the IoM, watching my sister and her husband race their sidecar and consuming my body weight in alcohol laugh

Well, there's not much else to do there wink

I will be there in a couple of weeks to complete the sale of my late dad's house. It will be my last time on the island.

Sorry for your loss.

The bits I saw of the island were quite nice. Better than the view our mechanic had anyway, as he got locked up for doing a wheelie down the prom straight off the ferry laugh

Anyhow, back on topic. We intended to go to Clevedon sea front today to walk the dog, but it was absolutely packed. I assume all the media interest has got the tourists in at least.

The local Facebook page has been rife with a ton of photoshops of things in the circle - someone put an Alexa one up, and the local councillor appeared...

The pile on has started..!

From what I saw today, this is encouraging people to drive to Clevedon. The seafront and the surrounding roads were packed this afternoon. As for public transport.. rofl

I parked on the wiggly lines at the weekend (bad parking thread for me !) while I dropped my wife and her friend and a lot of food off for a do at the sailing club, just under the walkway there. I then had to do a lap of the town looking for somewhere to park properly. They have made a proper hash of it all.

Fox raised it in Parliament this week. There’s a big meeting next week. I can see at least some of it being undone. £700k pissed up the wall

Film crew are all parked up down there this week so no one can park now.
Typical chaos down there, van on right drove the wrong way down the one way street to get there.

Nice I just caught his statement, seems DfT aren't keen to me to get involved, despite covid lockdown consultation that only had 700 replies!

Sadly the southwest somerset towns suffer from the Tories/Lib Dems coalition or flip flop. Most of time in taunton deane they spend fighting and its called the coalition of kaos in North Somerset!

Since its started over 6000 challenges!
