Never knew NI wasn't in Great Britain.
Since Ireland part of the British Isles I thought it was in the bag.
I specifically bought wee EU plate things to irritate a Farage-loving relative.
There are many parts of England, Scotland and Wales which also aren't in Great Britain.Since Ireland part of the British Isles I thought it was in the bag.

Have a UK sticker on my everyday car, last year went to France and was asked by someone if I was from Ukraine!
Have a chrome GB on my classic as it looks more in keeping with its age. Never had a problem with it on our annual trip to Le Mans. As has been said, many cars display nothing without issues.

If that was true would we not need to have The United Kingdom of Great Britain, Northern Ireland and many parts of England, Scotland and Wales on our passports?
We're off next week so I need to get one.
When based overseas and regularly travelling between Germany and England I never bothered TBH and was never picked up. I'd imagine even the most officious cop has better things to do than pretend they don't know where you've come from.
Maybe if you did get pulled for something else and then failed the attitude test it would be a different matter.

Just curious about whose regulations require the UK sticker? It must be under EU law as that's what applies over the water.
It's the Geneva convention. It's the Geneva Protocol.

I love the "5000 or so islands" bit. Fascinates me that there isn't a known total of islands in the British Isles. Surely we must be able to count them these days?
I think the trick is how you define what is and isn't an island rather than counting per se. Is a rock sticking out of the sea an island? What about somewhere cut off by the sea only at high tide? And whatever definition you end up with, some islands will change status as rocks erode or sandbanks move. Gassing Station | Speed, Plod & the Law | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
