"Police reported ahead" on Waze

And sure enough, there's a liveried SUV parked at the side of the motorway. However, it's not Police, it's Highways England.

Do you:

Select "Not There" in Waze - because they're not Police
Select "Still There" in Waze, either because you don't know the difference, or you think that people should slow down anyway.
Do nothing with Waze

Anyone can report "enthusiastic driving" to the police.

Near Jct 10 M25 there is always a VOSA vehicle parked up on a Police hump. Waze always shows it as Police. Handy for the HGV drivers they are targeting I suppose

I do the 'not there' option.

There was a story a while back where plod was spamming Waze, dropping markers all over the place. The cheek of it!

Around here they have a habit of tapping ‘not there’ as soon as they are reported doing speed checks. The icons disappear as quickly as they pop up.

Even if police are there I set not there

If people are worried the police are present they are proving a danger to other road users

I assume the reports are for a hazard so welcome them - the police don’t normally do speed checks.

And I wouldn’t be dabbing the screen when driving- I prefer to look at the road.

Argh. They are well camouflaged to look like Police. A30 yesterday had one in a huge Volvo XC90. Everyone slowed up to 60 and it created a huge convoy as they were too scared to pass at 70.
You can tell they love it. Arm on the window sill, sitting at 60.

I very nearly posted something similar as a response, but really, it's a losing battle. The place is so full of idiots like this now, you could spend your life wondering what the point is of their existence. And of course, they're driving is utterly blameless................

I use Waze, and yes, I say " not there " if it's HA or VOSA.

Don't see why, they aren't warning you of speed traps specifically, just giving a heads up of police activity.

I noticed a road round here (bit of a rat run) was constantly showing as closed, when it wasn't... I wondered if that was someone/some people conspiring to reduce the number of rat runners on their street.

Because closure of that rat run would send rat runners down my (even more unsuitable) road I reported it as open. They then closed it again. Repeat for a few days until I got bored.

That taught me that crowd-sourced data can be manipulated easily enough, I wonder if you could set a bot to report things on Waze to divert traffic away from your route and give yourself a better drive?

I just ignore these alerts and carry on with my life unbothered.

Same as the 'hazards' that are not actually hazardous, the 'major accidents' that are not major etc
