Agreed but I think most would do the same now or at least support it even if they didn’t chase the shoplifter. That’s still not the same as this plonker who deserves a smack in the chops for generally being a nobber smile

CM is something of an extreme example, but I doubt that ‘most’ people particularly dislike him. As far as I can see he doesn’t harass anyone who hasn’t completely set themselves up for it.
I would say that the contributors here who are coming out with the underworld language, gangs etc. are possibly even bigger Walter Mittys than ‘Mikey’ himself.
Separating ‘The Police’ from society is always going to end badly. Living in an area where no one has any ‘buy-in’ to local law and order is never going to be much fun. Something like 50 years ago as a Saturday boy in a local shop, I remember seeing a shoplifter chased up the road by a shop owner and other workers and members of the public joining in to catch him. No ordinary person would then have considered that there was anything wrong in helping the Police if necessary, and reporting criminal activity for the general good.
Come on, you cannot compare a shopkeeper chasing someone for stealing from their shop, to some guy hiding in bushes and actively looking for RTA offences and stopping cars. I'm sure the shopkeeper didn't hang around other shops trying to catch the next thief!

Difference is this guy goes looking for it. He makes a conscious effort to go to x location to catch folk out.

100% certified throbber.

Does that make it ok to beat him to a pulp? (Like most here are suggesting)

How stupid are you ? Because that's assault !

I can only give you the examples I have experienced - I was assaulted by a senior manager and his penalty was - bugger all !

I reported it to the police in case it was used against me in some way as I was the junior - the police said it was a internal work matter.

Work said the manager was under stress and would be disciplined but nothing happened
Aside from personal insults, how is this even remotely relevant?

No, we call them innocent under the eyes of the law.

It's like ourselves, we all know we all speed quite a lot, but are very rarely prosecuted.

We all know we're not innocent though, we're only innocent in the eyes of the law.

Does everything have to be so extreme? A quick slap, is not beating someone to a pulp.

That’s the bit that still baffles me. I am fairly sure that in most of the videos that he posts (and there are probably lots of boring ones that he doesn’t), most PHers caught in the same traffic would not have anything in common or sympathy with the people he catches. The ones that ignore the keep left signs and happily head off into an unknown amount of oncoming traffic are astonishingly stupid, entitled and dangerous. Giving them a free pass, and attacking CM instead seems like an unlikely scenario.
For me, he is at the thin end of a wedge - certainly not as ‘niche’ as a Tony Martin vigilante type, but just ahead of most people who collect and post dash cam footage and send to the Police. That ‘wedge’ extends out to Neighbourhood Watchers and eventually any ‘civilian’ who is prepared at least in principle to put some effort into preventing or solving a crime - which I hope would be most of us.
I wouldn’t wish him any harm because I see what he does as moderately amusing and moderately useful. He isn’t going to catch me either holding a mobile phone or wilfully ignoring road signage and I would much prefer the ‘lamping’ to happen to those individuals who do.

This scenario would be acceptable to you by the standard you've set above:
I've seen CM stick his camera into many cars with kids in them, so he must gratify himself with the footage as we all know there are folks out there that do such things. So we must send a baying mob for him since we're already convinced of his guilt by our own judgement

Not sure what your basic premise is - that we don't speed quite often?

The scenario you quote is the sort of tripe seen on Twitter. Can you or whoever posted that, show many videos of CM sticking his camera into cars with kids in? I doubt it very much. In fact I'm not sure ive ever seen CM stick his camera into any car, but am happy to be corrected on that.

I would be too, if he wasn't in it for personal gain. When someone is in it for their own personal gain, it changes everything for me.

You think it’s a great use of time to cycle slowly past cars poking your nose in? He’s just a toad. I can imagine his response if he was followed about in camera rofl

I wonder if anyone who ever gave someone "a quick slap" ever got one back? scratchchin
