I don't think you've made a case for him being one.
Give it a shot. But please make it understandable.

Why hasn't he turned himself in and voluntarily paid the fine then?
How would that work?
By calling 101 or using the online crime reporting tool for his local force
If he'd had a number plate he may have been offered a fixed penalty automatically.

He's not a vigilante, he's not a judge nor a jury.

This is probably why you're getting your knickers in a twist, because you're getting everything wrong.

Don't waste your time with Carlo.

I stopped engaging with him ages ago in this thread, as it became clear he didn't even have a basic understanding of what the process was for someone being issued with a ticket or NIP, or convicted of a driving offence. He just keeps banging on about 'judge and jury' nonsense.

Now he's saying that you can 'accidentally pick up your phone and read a message' while driving, which again, is patently stupid to the point that you realise he is either thick, or trolling.

If you support those that spend their time taking video of others and sending footage in to the Police, then basking in their 'glory' on social media....well, you're as sad as CM. He needs to get some perspective. And a life! The fact he has just been seen to transgress the law himself is just hilarious. Watching everyone tie themselves in knots 'not understanding' is actually pretty awesome.

I'm sure the irony of you posting that others should get a life, whilst posting on an internet forum, isn't lost on anyone.

Mikey not concentrating here and cycles through these red lights. He sees the traffic lights for the other lane change to green and thinks the green light is for him..

Yeah because somebody has turned that traffic light so it's pointing towards him, it should be pointing to the right and the green light not visible to him.

eta- in fact mikey mentions it and posts a link to the street view showing what it ought to be like in the video comments

I absolutely agree that people shouldn’t be using their phone when driving. I also get that, while it’s clearly less dangerous when stopped in traffic, it’s still an issue since you need to retain some awareness of what’s going on around you. I also suspect the law prohibits using your phone stationary in traffic in part to avoid the need for each phone use prosecution to have to prove not only was the phone being used but the vehicle was also in motion.

Despite his father’s apparent demise in a traffic accident (tragic if true) I do doubt CM’s motives and approach. He seeks to argue that stationary phone use is dangerous and a cause worth fighting. I suspect it’s more that it’s a motoring offence which it’s practical to detect with a simple camera on a pushbike and one which carries quite a harsh penalty. He’s seized upon this as a means to take out his frustrations with others in general and motorists in particular. It also provides the handy smokescreen of ‘noble cause’ for anyone seeking to challenge him. I suspect it’s also providing him with an income boost and a sense of self importance.

I’ve seen some of his Twitter / videos. There’s no need for him to engage with people but he does. He seems to catch a relatively high number of drivers of expensive cars. He’s clearly looking up private number plates from past convictions, and seems to take pleasure in thinking that the added insurance cost might have caused them to change their car when he can’t find the number anymore. His rote and binary reading of the Highway Code is evident, like Vine he substitutes a perceived entitlement to occupy a piece of road for sensible decision making. He makes some odd risk choices, cycling without a helmet, carrying large boxes on the side of a bike whilst arguing it doesn’t impact stability and visibility, dismounting his bike to climb up on a HGV to get footage of the driver using a phone etc etc. I do wonder if he can see exactly how he comes accross and the flaws in his position and it’s all deliberate to drive traffic to his Twitter / You Tube. On balance though I think he’s just very odd (possibly has a diagnosed or undiagnosed disorder) and I strongly suspect CM’s issues and motivation aren’t primarily rooted in road safety.

A long winded way of saying you don't like the bloke...and don't understand the law when it comes to mobile device use in a vehicle biggrin

1. Yep.
2. I’m no expert, not sure what I’ve stated as a fact which is necessarily wrong though?

No worries. To be fair I’ve used a lot of words and possibly obscured the material with the immaterial (such is my bad habit when writing).

It is wordy, but if you take the time to read it properly, it does make perfect sense beer

It's not a case of supporting.

I wouldn't do what he does but I don't have a problem with what he does. The people who need to get a life imo are those who get so exercised about something that is extremely unlikely to affect them.

With regard to his transgressing, of course he does, everybody does, the human being who doesn't make mistakes will never exist.

But surely even you can see a difference between transgressing by mistake and doing so deliberately; and the difference between doing so in kilos of bicycle or tonnes of motor vehicles.

There is epic hypocrisy behind this topic imo. This is Pistonheads, where Speed Matters. Virtually all of us here break laws, and law breaking within a motoring perspective has been globally celebrated.
But when we're caught, however we're caught, we should stop fking moaning imo. Do we want to live in a world/country where we can all break the laws with impunity?

Do we want to live in a world where are neighbours are spying on us. It’s pretty tragic.
