Antagonising him further and endangering other people slowing down. Clever option!

Why not just ignore and he’ll lose interest eventually.

Probably the most well thought out comment or question on this thread.

If you aren’t currently holding the person up, flashing usually indicates a warning of some type.

No lights, flat tyre, something trailing from the car etc. etc.
And yet, despite the following driver specifically signalling a hazard we get a bunch of bleeps complaining about them slowing down...

No, travelling marginally slower than you would like isn't a reason to flash someone.

Just like car horns, if you can't figure out an immediate obvious reason for the signal, slowing down IS a correct response; it means if there is a good reason for the signal (rather than an aggressive tt who can't cope with traffic in front not doing 5-10mph over the limit) you have longer to react if/when the reason gets worse.

So your solution to someone flashing their lights at you is to try and get them killed whilst potentially taking you with them.
And perhaps causing a motorway pile-up at the same time.

I'm not in the habit of calling people aholes on a public forum but in this case I'm prepared to make an exception, and suggest he hands in his DL.

Evidence that the op is a halfwit and should have his licence revoked

I was pootling happily in the slow lane at 60 idiot starts flashing me. Took my foot off the gas ended up going less than thirty he still didn’t overtake

Bizarre. Eventually he exited left and I made a point of getting back up to 60 quick smart
You're a danger to yourself and other road users. Consider taking a few driving lessons.

Agreed. Ops first post was idiotic, and he's gone downhill from there!

Utter and absolute eejit. I hope I never encounter the OP on the road. People like him are the cause of many of our traffic problems as they are completely clueless about driving safely.

Unfortunately that would end up with him using the train and OP has trouble with doing that correctly too hehe

I'm going to take a contrary viewpoint and suggest that there are very few situations where slowing down isn't the safest and most sensible option and that if the OP was being tailgated and flashed then slowing down allowing (1) more opportunities for them to overtake and (2) slower speeds should the worst happen then this can't be bad as a pure default; that said it does sound more likely that there was an apparent problem with a light/tyre etc. The pile on about someone slowing down is unnecessary and likely incorrect; as described it sounds a perfectly standard way of reacting.

This one is certainly not in the "safest & most sensible" option list.

He was in the left lane of a dual carriageway/motorway (70mph road) with traffic doing 60/70 behind/to the right of the OP doing "less than 30".

That is a massive & really dangerous speed differential for those around him.

On top of that, if other traffic in other lanes is doing 60/70 the acceleration & lane change required to overtake him would be VERY fraught with danger, and most certainly not giving more "opportunities for them to overtake".

So all the OP did was to put many people in potential harms way, which is all rather stupid.

The correct action to take when tailgated is to increase distance from the vehicle in front, NOT slow down to 30 on a road with a 70 limit.

Some people really do make their own lives harder than they need to be.

Gives details to innocent motorist. When innocent motorist's solicitor requests information (presumably the very reason details were given in first place) he says that he is being hassled. Utter plonker.

I hate to stereotype but something tells me the op has a dash cam, and regularly shouts in an adenoidal voice “camruh “ whilst failing to correctly anticipate the list blindingly obvious hazards.
