I'd be reporting the main dealer for breaching GDPR.

How did they breach GDPR?

This. Where is the breach of confidentiality?

I wish people would understand how GDPR works.

Evening

Our van was hit yesterday and wing mirror taken off.

Driver didn’t stop, but we know the reg. he is local (checked with main dealer and they look after the car) but I don’t have driver details.

Is there a way to find out who he is insured with and speak to them directly.

Value of claim is under £500 which is my excess, and to be honest I do t want an insurance claim if I can avoid.

Many thanks
Sorry OP but this is how it will pan out for you if you tell your insurance company -

- Other driver will deny it or say he certainly didn't hear / know anything about it - BS BS etc
- Insurance will log it as you've had an accident (could be no fault if lucky but more than likely 50/50)
- Insurance pay out (if you pursue it through them) but you get screwed for more than £500 though a couple of years renewals
- If you choose not to pursue through insurance - you still get screwed at renewal time as there WILL be an accident logged that you didn't claim for.

Been there done it. Unfortunately you have to either catch the culprit at the time and record a confession, or forget it sadly.

Best of luck OP

Agreed. Saying you service a persons car isn't the same as logging onto a pc and sharing it's data.

First 2 points ok, the rest not. That maybe your experience, but not necessarily the same outcome for the OP

Hit and run????!!!
I think it's more, leaving the scene without giving your details, which is an offence.
Correct. OP, speak with the police, providing the plate. Let them know that if he coughs up the £ then that will be the end of the matter. I'm sure he'd prefer that to a hit and run charge. No insurance involved, so I see no reason to declare it moving forward.

Write to the DVLA - you have a valid reason for needing to know the RK's details.

Literally just posted my thread about this, I lodged a notification, I now have to declare for the next 5 years that there is a notification on my record from someone hitting me, not stopping and me not taking any action to make a claim for my vehicle. I wish I'd never said anything. I have 4 car policies, the first of which has now incread by £45 for the priviledge.
