Our lane is stuck on red ...the queue is getting longer and people are sounding their horn trying to get the lady in the first car to go....(its a one way street).Halifax has a hobby of diging up streets for no reason.

The first Lady finally moves to the side payment.

There is no apparent evidence of any cameras that are going to record anybody jumping the red.

The queue has been there 10 mins and it begins to move.

Would you risk a NIP jumping a Red Light...would there be any defence??

Silly question but if it's a one way street why wait more than 30 seconds more than you should. The chance of a head-on is zero... .

I remember reading somewhere that temporary traffic lights aren’t backed up with a Traffic Regulation Order so if you went through a red light, you couldn’t be done for a red light offence.

Could be a load of codswollop though.

Close. Temporary lights that aren't there with a TRO would have difficulty forming a prosecution. There's specific offence codes for violating local TROs.

Usually if you phone the traffic management company who own the traffic lights, they’ll have someone out to fix them pretty quickly (minutes rather than hours).

Have done this before with badly positioned ones causing mayhem, they were there very promptly.

My wife got 3 points for being the last person to go whilst it was still green......North Yorkshire Police circa 1997 were a bunch of lying bds. They also refused to allow her to leave until they'd virtually done a full MOT at the roadside, despite her having to pick up a 5 year old from school, not 1/2 a mile away. And the rumour was that if you complained, they then specifically targeted you and all your family members.

My dad told me whilst teaching me to drive in 1984, that you could continue to travel on red if you were at the end of the queue, because there was no danger, of having a head on collision. I've always taken that with a pinch of salt.

I have on occasion looked far into the distance and seen no cars to worry about and driven through on red. And as I've passed the light facing in the opposite direction, seen it to be red.

And remember green means proceeed with caution. Not go with your eyes closed.

I wouldn't worry too much about your license.

Your licence, however..

Indeed, as a pedestrian I was walking beside a road controlled by temporary traffic lights, (two lanes to use a single lane controlled by the lights) last car on my side passed me but then struggled to get past a fallen traffic cone. He was very, very clearly seen by the opposite cars who then got green with this car about 30 metres from 'safety',

Leading clown on green drove at him at full speed and presto..... totally blocked road for all. They were still arguing and unable to find a solution by the time I was half a mile away.
