I think some more revision of grammar and spelling is required before writing any essay.

If you read what the op says, it was actually around 90 in a 50. Observation is the key for the OP and reading the post lol.

Not aimed at you, Petrus…I am amazed by the holier than thou responses…we’ve all been young and we have all broken the limit, I’m sure.

OP needs to learn that when you speed you need to be 100% aware of everything around you, actually always when driving but when at pace you really need to be on it.

I followed a car with 4 young lads in today, the driving was terrible and when I overtook the driver was looking at his phone and was leaning in to the middle of the car…awful driving, he seemed to jump when I rode alongside him and glared in despite my noisy bike having followed him for a few miles.
No - honestly I re- read what I wrote and was almost ashamed, but I do think times are (sadly different) these days.

You're right about the 90mph - but knowing the new rules with a 6 point maximum for new drivers that seems quite the risk. We have people on the forum who've been driving for 20+ years and when they get pulled at over 100mph even AGT advises to lawyer up.

I got pulled not long after I'd passed my license by an undercover Volvo doing 95mph on the M3 - the copper gave me a massive bking, said my driving had been quite good, and told me he wouldn't let me off again. But I think those days (80's) are long gone.

You can’t drive so fast and not pay attention. Did you think the bloke following just wanted to race you?

I was a complete loony when I passed my test but the roads were empty and my Metro was slow and had very low grip.

I think the new rules for a ban in the first 2 yrs and re test are a great idea, too may young lads get killed driving badly.

The standard if driving in the general population is terrible. The advanced driving stuff should really be the test standard. I am doing IAM at the moment it is common sense really and we just need to get people to really pay attention when driving.

The 110 was on a motorway, didn't you read the OP?

Good point with the cars. My Pug 1.3 topped out at 90ish and scared you to death whilst doing it - a crash would have severe consequences. I did my IAM aged 18 to try and give my survival rates better odds.

You mean the OP who hasn’t been back since that single post?

I’m not sure arguing over the detail of something that didn’t happen is worth the effort.

18 is impressive for IAM….to see the benefit.

I think my Metro probably did a true 90 but it was screaming in 4th, it used to drop from top speed to 70 just going up a gentle hill on the A3.

You don’t state your age, I’m going to assume under 20, if not whatever age you are you’re facing a loss of licence, if driving less than 2 years also a retest. Frankly if you do double whatever the speed limit is then you don’t deserve to be on the road anyway.

I know this is Pistonheads and I know we've all made mistakes - but 110mph in a 50mph zone and not noticing someone following you at that speed - after having your license for 10 months is next level for me. And probably why the new rules have been introduced.
To be honest I got pulled over with another 40mph on that speed in a 50 and only got three points

but he was even complimentary on my driving otherwise (strange, but true) and especially as it was brief and no time for him to actually clock it effectively.

Even so, these days I drive much much slower (the car got stolen smile )

People like the OP or more widely? What has it cost the insurance industry?
Who said it cost the insurance industry anything, if he has his license revoked it’ll cost him to insure in the future…if anyone will touch him that is….

I think its just a figure of speach. "Someone has nothing better to do than stir up an argy" kind fo thing. I don't think anyone seriously thinks school kids are messing around on here :-) Some of the posters of this nonsense do try and sound like they are 15 to add to the "authenticity" :-)

I did not know that, I always thought it was a bit odd that a school kid would be thinking about trolling this stuff.

As well as the ban, when you have to resit your driving test, it’ll be the more expensive extended test that is more difficult.
Nope, this is reserved for higher end offences.

I’ve said this a few times over the years but my experience was……

123 in a 60, caught by an undercover car recording from a lay-by.
Short chat in the car, polite and to the point, my car was checked over by the second policeman and seemed all ok. The one in the car was asking lots of driving related questions and I think seeing if I was a bit of a knob or not.

Court case and was honest, expressed my need for my licence but said I don’t argue about what I did at the time. No fluff or woe is me rubbish. The policeman came to give his version of events and was complimentary of my driving etc but the speed was far in excess of what was acceptable, I didn’t expect anyone to be there.

£500 fine and 30 day ban. I turned 25 while banned and my insurance went down. It’s not always black and white.

Take the sensible advice from here and if you go to court, don’t take it likely, dress well, be honest and appreciate a bus may be in your future for a while.

The man who was caught the same day at 110, he had a much bigger fine and was banned for 6 months. He acted like an argumentative tit though so think this really hurt his case.

Dave!
