I’ve said this a few times over the years but my experience was……

123 in a 60, caught by an undercover car recording from a lay-by.
Short chat in the car, polite and to the point, my car was checked over by the second policeman and seemed all ok. The one in the car was asking lots of driving related questions and I think seeing if I was a bit of a knob or not.

Court case and was honest, expressed my need for my licence but said I don’t argue about what I did at the time. No fluff or woe is me rubbish. The policeman came to give his version of events and was complimentary of my driving etc but the speed was far in excess of what was acceptable, I didn’t expect anyone to be there.

£500 fine and 30 day ban. I turned 25 while banned and my insurance went down. It’s not always black and white.

Take the sensible advice from here and if you go to court, don’t take it likely, dress well, be honest and appreciate a bus may be in your future for a while.

The man who was caught the same day at 110, he had a much bigger fine and was banned for 6 months. He acted like an argumentative tit though so think this really hurt his case.

Dave!
Sounds like a totter.

As the fine is income based, I infer from the above that his salary exceeded yours by some margin.

18 is impressive for IAM….to see the benefit.

I think my Metro probably did a true 90 but it was screaming in 4th, it used to drop from top speed to 70 just going up a gentle hill on the A3.
My dad was keen for me to have a sporty car for my 18th birthday and a very nice MG Midget was available - it was a simple "if you pass the IAM you can have the MG". I actually failed my first test - for speeding laugh

Why all the negative replies?
This used to be a website for people who enjoyed pressing on a bit. Seems to have degenerated into mumsnet.

Because as a collective it's been seen as beyond the "spirited drive" and was unlucky to get caught threshold. PH is also 26 years old and to think that driving conditions haven't changed is naive.

When peoples insurance jumps 100% and more …..this is why….
Surely everyone else's premium will reduce. The OP has cost his insurance company nothing, but they will extract additional premium from him for the next few years. Therefore, to keep the books balanced, everybody else should see a reduction.

40,000,000 drivers in the UK, so every £100 the op's insurance increases will decrease everyone else's by 0.00025p!
Somebody please check my maths!

And in 26 years we have stopped hooning around in TVRs and been numbed into meek obeyance by cameras and fines...

Pity the OP couldn't be arsed to respond despite starting a 5-page thread with his first post.

No, dear boy; it may have taken a quarter of a century but you have finally learnt to become a responsible member of society. Or "Mutual" - as The Prisoner might have put it.

Not unusual these days, unfortunately.

For everyone saying I didn’t reply. It was due to it being a new account and I couldn’t for the first 14 days. I have received a letter and to show up in court.

How long have you got? Really could be worth investing in a proper brief - you could easily save money in the long run.

Hello everyone. I appreciate all the comments trying to help me. I couldn’t reply due to the fact it was a new account and I had to wait 14 days. I know I made a mistake and it was very silly and I understand that. I have received the letter and need to show up in court next week. Thank you for the replies.

But by god are there some holier than thou posters on this thread.
Totally, utterly this. PH is descending perpetually towards a 'Brake' outlook.

We have all sped. Some higher than others. I've certainly broken the limit by more than the OP on occasions. I had a 5 week ban when I'd had my licence for less than 2 years, 108/70 (it was at the time that 6 points = retest, which I dreaded)

IMO OP, this is the outcome you should aim for, a period off the road, then back to a licence with zero points once spent. The only speeding tickets I've had since are once at 84/70, once at 87/70, 13 years apart. According to some on here I should be bending over for the soap. Pistonheads. Speed (limits) matter. FFS.

Benny Bogan, the fair dinkum Aussie, did a video on how to get away with speeding. I suggest you watch it, it's on Facebook somewhere.

You consciously sped, showed little awareness if you were being followed for a while by an undercover officer and are now looking at someone throwing the book at you. Hold your hands up, be honest and let the dice fall where they may. Take it as a lesson. None of us like getting caught but the laws are there for a reason.
