Potential Thief in Office Yesterday...
Discussion
A quick question for the guys :)
Last week someone stole the Cashbox and a Car from the offices downstairs. On the same day a young 14/15yo ish lad came into our office and when confronted claimed to have come about a job interview. (We have no jobs on offer and have never advertised for staff). He was sent packing by a staff member.
Yesterday I also had a young lad again claiming to be here for a job interview. We suspect it was the same lad who stole the cash box and probably the car.
I just chucked him out the office as all he'd actually done infront of me was ask for a job.....he was definately snooping around but I stopped him before he stole anything....damn it.
My question is should I have "detained" the little scrote and called the bib?

I think it depends how much you love the company you work for.
If you consider that if a 14/15 year old has the balls to pull of something like that, he may also have been in trouble with the police, security guard etc before and may know the benefits of Legal Aid.
Although it may be the right thing to do it would be very unfortunate for you to be charged with kidnapping/holding the child against their will something which could be twisted into something much worse.
I have been in a similar situation as a teenager where I was being trained as an undercover security guard at a large electrical retailer. As an 'official' you are given a but more leaway with regard to holding suspects etc, but you are only allowed to stop someone after they have gone past the final point to pay, after the tills. Thus, you would be chasing them out the door and down the road. In a struggle, if a knife was pulled on you, would it really be worth being stabbed for a Playstation game? Furthermore that retailers insurance policy stopped at the edge of the premises...
Back to your situation, the dangers are the same. Is it worth it?

On what stated there does not seem to be grounds to invoke a Citizens Arrest and detain the lad unless you had reasonable grounds to suspect HIM of having committed/about to commit an indictable offence. What stated is merely trespassing. To have done so could have placed you at the end of a civil claim for false arrest/imprisonment.
A problem nowadays is the the little B's now carry and are not afraid to use a weapon of offence despite legislation to curtail such carrying.
Ways and means should have been employed to try and get an ID, photo, waltzed in front of CCTV if present, whilst Plodshop contacted p.d.q.
If the incident has not been reported it should be.
Solving crime is like doing a jig saw - its the bits of evidence that fit together to get a result.

We had a scrote steal 3 laptops from our labs a few weeks ago in Manchester. He waited for the security guy to take a piss jumped over the desk, found a visitors pass and swiped in through the secure doors. He was stopped on the way out and the laptops recovered.... the security guys have now been issued with empty coke cans!

One assumes that there is no sort of secure entrance to your office to prevent such undesireables? We occasionally get scrotes hanging around the small area outside our office smoking roll ups and spitting on the floor a lot.
I despair for the future of our nation!
By midday today there will be a mechanical code lock on the office door.... Just as soon as screwfix deliver it i'm getting the drill and chisels out

A cheap video-entry and buzz-through system also works excellently.......around €300,- only!!!!
Mind you I'm not surprised things get nicked by such oppotunists, some offices have absolutely NO security at all, It'd be easy as pie to walk in and take things!!!! GET SECURE CHAPS!!!

You must need a lot of these to throw at chav thieves, but I can see why you'd want to liven up their shift.
If you fill them with piss first they are heavier.... it also cuts down on toilet breaks lol
