Sorry to revive a dead thread, didn't see the point in starting a new one though.

Does anybody know if laws have changed at all regarding exhaust noise?

I have just removed the mufflers on the back of my bmw e63 650 and it is brutally loud, I looked around at every video I could find but not one video, or even the one I've taken shows how utterly angry it sounds.

No idea how many dB it is.
Sounds as though you're just asking for a section 59 to come your way!

Strictly speaking any aftermarket exhaust system which causes the vehicle to be louder than standard is both an MOT fail and illegal.

Most MOT inspectors use discretion regardless of the rules though and most police do the same.

My e39 528i passed a mot with only cat on and straight pipe to backbox, no silencers and no resonator.

Brutally loud, never pulled over either.
