Received this by e-mail this morning...
For the next 4 days the police are doing speed checks on every major road in to Marlow and High Wycombe.

They have an unmarked car hidden in a side road and further on a squad car to pull you over. The mobile units are not visible. You are asked if you want 3 points and a fine or watch a video on the horrors of speeding in one of their traffic cabins the video takes 20mins...

Not saying anybody does speed, but just to be aware.
Rich...

Thanks Rich, am going up there this evening.
Nice to be given the choice of education rather than punishment though

A4155 Henley Road going in and out of Marlow is always a favourite, well it used to be favourite spot for speed checks.

The Bisham side of Marlow Bridge is another and Little Marlow Road (I think its still the C100) which is the back road from Marlow up to Handy Cross is another.

Round near Marlow Hill and the A404 has to be a favourite.

That said, if I have 20mins spare, I wouldn't mind watching a little 'Police, Camera, Action' myself

BTW, where is Alistair 'sanctimonious' Stewart these days, after his little indiscretion (when he replicated the idiotic driving he used to rile against)?

Major Police presence on the A404 this morning. An unmarked blue scamera/ANPR van (cameras through windows above rear doors) parked on the grass verge halfway between THOSE corners, two marked bikes waiting to pounce at the Penn turn and then a road block with three marked cars at the Winchmore Hill turn. I was going to stop and ask what it was all about on my return trip, but all that was left was the Police Slow signs, invoking plenty of cry wolf syndrome (ie panic braking numpties).

Bugger, I go the other way to work ... 'cept that I worked at home today. I could have taken them a flask of hot [insert liquid of choice]

Next time we'll team up and do the warning and tip box thing

Mind you, it's a 60 limit there, I don't think that many people exceed it. Would have been better off in the dip by the Beech Tree pub ... bugger, shut up Trefor. THOSE bends are definitely an idiot spot where idiots kills themselves (I refuse to use the word accident).

A short story which always brings a smile to my face (but not the BiB)...

A few years ago (before I knew what a Talivan was) I was out as a passenger in my dads new Ultima GTR. We were going out for a fast, challenging drive and part of our route involved the A404. We turned off the M40 and headed south down this fabled road and halfway down the hill we caught up with a Peugot 406, he was doing about 120mph (we were obviouly going quicker as we caught him up). Anyway, for some reason, having a bright yellow Ultima up his arse didn't make him pull over, so my dad flashed his headlights, this bloke then stuck his finger up at us and stayed in the outside lane. A few seconds later his brake lights come on and we see some BiB on the overpass at the bottom of the hill with a speed gun, our speed comes right down. The BiB run over to their car, jump in like the Dukes Of Hazard and come racing down the slip road after us (the Peugot is still in front), the police over take me and my dad and proceed to pull over the Peugot driver, letting us drive off into the sun set... we were laughing the rest of the day.

Editted for spelling

About half way between Hazlemere and Amersham, two very open right handers. Unfortunately a succession of idiots have managed to wrap themselves around the trees that line the bends and they have now been, quite ridiculously, labelled "dangerous" by the local rag. The last two fatals both involved max power muppets losing control of cars that were unroadworthy (an XR2 and an Mk III Escort). As a result the approach has now been lined with central hatchings and BIB makes a regular appearance.

How many millions of times must people have safely negotiated the corners without ending up in a wooden overcoat? Dangerous my ...
